Quite interesting

  MCS R56
The new Meg dCi 175 is slightly quicker than the Trophy and 197 Cup around the west circuit.

Seems that it handles very well. Almost took the ST on the track too.

Might be worth a butchers, that!

Renault has produced the most convincing diesel hot hatch yet, but can it upset the Focus-shaped, petrol-powered apple cart?

And R26 :rasp:

Didn't the Meggy and the ST go round before the circuit change though? An that appears to be worth quite a bit.

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
Focus driver said he'd have been a lot quicker if his vision hadn't been impaired by the clouds of diesel fumes!!!!!

Only jesting. I don't think anyone can deny that modern diesel engines when paired up with a good chassis are a force to be reckoned with. Although the chassis is crap, a mapped gttdi 150 golf will easily pull to 60 in under 7 seconds, which is on a par with the 2.8v6 4 motion if you can get the power down (review on superchips website).

Personally though, I think diesels are a lazy drivers car unless you're doing more than average milage. A lad at work is getting rid of a 230RX8 to get a 320d, he does about 5k a year. What is the point, especially with diesel at 10p a litre more.

Petrol all the way for me;)

Agreed, mate. Diesels are for the 'lazier driver' but they are now being developed nicely, so I would consider one. (I'm becoming lazy!) 230 RX8 - I don't see the point in that engine at all! 20mpg wtf! I'm getting a bit bored with ringing the neck of my Cup to get it going. Although, I did have a quick drag against a 197 and Scooby last night. Not much difference between the Clios. I wasn't really gaining but he did get the power down first. Scooby didn't have any probs!

Grip, grip and more grip. Think the dci meg would be a great everyday car.

  Tiger R6 / Saxo Vts
DCI meg beat the trophy by 0.2 of a second, and the R27 by 0.4 of a second.

Focus ST has softer suspension then the Meg - but that's because it's designed more as a fast cruiser then a real weapon.
