Quoted £123 fitted for front brake pads. Is this ok?

Car  Clio 1970000000
Quoted by my local Renault dealer for front brake pads for my 197. Sounds reasonable to me. What have you paid?

I have a good mechanic but have decided that I would prefer this car to be looked after by my main dealer as I have had great service from them.

You must have money coming out of your ears. Anyone off here would do just as good a job as Renault and probably charge you beer tokens

Seems everyone else doesn't live that near to me!!!! I could just use my mechanic who is very good, sorts me out price wise but is a little unreliable.

Where is the best place to get genuine pads?

do them yourself?

its not that hard fella, pop the wheel off and release the 2x13mm bolts holding the caliper onto the carrier, then slide the pads off..

Where are you?

I'm sure there'd be a few people on here who'd fancy making a penny or two.

I am technically minded but don't want to take a risk that I will balls up something as important as this. K-Tec have front pads for £90 + delivery, so when you add the fitting in the dealer price does not seem too bad to me.

North West London.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I would rather go with a main dealer or my mechanic. Piece of mind is worth the extra money especially as I ferry the family around.

I picked up some EBC Green stuff pads for my 182 off ebay for £46 and did the job myself its easy and there is a guide in the "Guide Section" should you not be sure dry run it afew times first.

if the genuine parts can't be had for much less than that, that fitted price seems good

surprised they're as much as £90, even from an aftermarket supplier though

Then £123 is a good price..

It really is an incredibly simple job, though..

Just before selling my Bora, I had all the disks and pads changed. I sort out the IT for my mechanic and he sorts out my car so I got him to do the job. I couldn't believe the amount of work involved. Without the specialist tools to wind back the calipers etc and the copper grease it would have been a nightmare for me to do it. Oh and I don't own a jack apart from the one that comes with the car. I realised that in that situation, doing the job myself (which I had contemplated) would have been uneconomical and taken me the best part of a day!!!!

Maybe the pads are easy to change, I'm sure you know more than me here, but doing a little research makes me happy to pay someone else. I have more than enough DIY to do at home:rolleyes:

Thanks for all the feedback.

Its a 197, so different! pads are 89.80 plus vat according to our system, so sounds good to me!

Well, i should have said it's a simple thing if you've got all the tools..

Ouch at the price of pads.. Fitted price seems much better now.

Think I paid 120 quid for all 4 doing a few months back but that was at a local independent, wouldn't entertain a stealer tbh - my local one Sunwin Renault are facking useless, wouldn't ask them the time let alone let them loose on my car.
