R888s for road?

  220 Trophy
Thanks kelv. I 100% want some for track. Probs end up getting some other wheels and using t1r and r1r tyres for daily

Hi rob, i will call you mate :)

Wocka, I have an as-new (professionally reconditioned) set of 15” OZ F1’s with as-new (500 miles) Yokohama Parada Spec 2 tyres if you’re interested.

See my for sale post, they all do literally look like new; let me know if you’re interested.

I run a similar tyre on the Caterham, Yoka A048's. I was suprised how decent these were in the wet. I thought they were going to be a death trap but were actually good. Back end only comes out when u want it too! From cold u can feel the back end slide a tad but they soon warm up. They don't last too long mind and come new with less tread than normal road tyres iirc. Brilliant in the dry once warmed up! ;)

Don't forget AD08's either. There ment to be a good tyre.

As above - I also have some A048s on a car I used mainly (at the moment) on the road. Bit pricier than 888s but seem to have slightly better reviews. Lots of grip in the dry, fine in the wet, not great with standing water though due to low tread depth and not many channels for water clearance. Come with 4.76mm tread to start (888s are 4.5 or 5mm, can't remember exactly).

However - my opinion is that if you are driving fast enough on the road to test such a tyre you're asking for trouble (diesel, someone pulling/stepping out on you, horse poo, mud, etc)... If you want the 'security' of awesome grip most of the time though then go for it! They don't last all that long though.

I think stuff like T1Rs are more than adequate for road use, I have some Kumho Ecsta Sports on the Clio road wheels and you have to try pretty hard to break traction.

On the track though - road tyres are toss.

I have had T1R's on my car on track and on the road, and I have never had a problem with spinning an inside wheel i find them a very good all-round tyre.... IMO they don't wear as quickly as people state either...

I found these very good on track as well, Dunlop - DZ02G in medium compound

T1R's are still pretty pikey in the tyre world when compared with decent tyres. Even the Parada I found much much better.

Ive never tried the prada spec 2s but have heard good things. Thanks for all your coments guys :)

It not that i drive that fast on the road, its wen i do put my foot down for my enjoyment it spins, eg bone dry this morning, pulled off in 1st (on a straight) until about 3k then put my foot down, it hit around 5.5k and spun, still pulls ace when spinning but better if it didnt. One thing i should mention, im running camber bolts so this will limit my overall tread but cant b that much.

Take a look at my project thread to see my mods if that helps. Im thinkin on just geting good fast road tyres for now but t1rs were shocking when took it on rockingham, as said backend was fine, but nearly everycorner id powerout it would just light the tyres up
