raising the rev limit



on having the remap you can raise the limiter , increasing the limiter gives you a little more revs in the gear before you hit the limiter , though you lose power after 6800 revs or thereabout , having that little more to play with saves you hitting the limiter every time imo

Not much point on a stock engine in terms of power, but could be useful on track for holding onto the same gear between corners.

Also if your car is limited to about 58mph in 2nd gear like mine, rasing the limit can knock a lot of time off a 0-60 as your not having to make the extra gear change

its not just raising the limit its moving the power in the range. when its remaped naturly asperated engines tend to have more power top end so moving the limit can help use this more

so it will help top end power, but lose power at the lower end?

A change up costs you time. As said on a track it could be the difference in needing to change up to third then back down to second again shortly after, or leaving it in gear. Leaving it in gear will save you time.

I've always said this when people bang on abotu no point going past x rpm as all they are thinking of is a straight sprint etc, but you have to think of it as time saving by not changing gear. Obviously if your going to carry on accelerating well up into the next gear then yes change earlier, but if you are changing up only to change back down again very soon it might be better just leaving it in gear longer, which an increased limiter would let you do.

Its very useful on tracks so you can hold onto certain gears longer in bends savin you hvin to change mid corner. thats all basically

I've got a 7,750 limit - couldn't care about what it does for power, as said above it's all about the track.

On track I change gear normally at the usual revs and I don't rev high as a matter of course. But on track it can be a huge advantage.

Chasing Jon_r around Goodwood in two identical 172 Cups except for me having the higher limit, I took two lengths out of him coming out of Lavant corner every time. He had to change to 4th while exiting but I could keep it nailed in 3rd until I was straight.

Also helps when entering too...the left right Surtees/McLaren kink at Brands I can take in 3rd all the way, but most need a change to 4th before coming back to 3rd straight away, all of which unsettles the car and costs you grip.

Hes right you know. track is the only real reason to have it and for sure it works :)

Don't forget the higher rev limit also means you'll be higher up in the rev range when you change up to the next gear (ie. not waiting as long for the revs to hit the "sweet zone")

Correct.

The lower gears a fair way apart, and even with a standard engine it might well improve your quarter mile time by being able to stay in first (and maybe even second) a bit longer so you you don't drop off the cam when when you go into the next gear. You could change at optimum revs without having to be concerned with hitting the rev limiter and losing power.
