i am so tempted! everybody has a go at me when i tell them im gonna run in in for a mile then redline in very gear after that

Errrrrm...... id read the small print on the warranty if i were you ;) you may be a bit  when they dont cover your engine due to abuse :( (more manufactures are going this way now, especially if you are having engine failures!)

Run the car in properly for the first 1k, then rag it ;)

What car are you getting? A Mk2 V6?

Daz, they can strip the engine to see if its been abused, it does actually show if you have abused the car (especially from cold as you get lots of wear at this time).

Running in an engine is there for a reason, the biggest being that the parts havnt quite fitted together perfectly, this keeping under 4k is to give the maximum lubrication and minimum wear on any edges/parts that are not perfectly finished off.

Run it in properly mate, why bother spending all that money on it then abuse it, sure its there to be enjoyed, but once they start taking it apart it wont feel right again, I know the warranty is there but id prefer to keep my car nice and running well from me being careful not Renault rebuilding it.

What you getting anyway, make sure you check the paintwork before you accept delivery.

1.2 16v billabong

thanks for all the help but how many miles iis it to run a car in usually

i never had a new car before!

Girlracer-Mk2 V6 erm yeah!

If you read the handbook it will tell you keep under 3000 revs for the first 650 miles i think.Or stay below 80...

After this you can pretty much rag it

youre getting the same as what ive got, you shouldnt rev it above 3500rpm for the first 625 miles and be careful up to 1500. I didnt rev mine above 3500 until I got past the 1500 mile mark just to be on the safe side, I still dont take it above 4krpm as its only a small engine.

well so far i have given my car death from the off (7 miles on the clock when i got it) i have not suffered 1 mechanical fault and i now have 9400 miles

Reanult take the specs for the car at 3500rpm for good reason, anything higher sounds like a tank and doesnt give you that much extra speed

Personally I tried to stay under 3000rpm for the first 700 miles
Ive now done 1400 miles and the engine feels much better, and has stopped stalling (common problem with the ecu) and is much faster.

The car I test drove at the dealers had obviously not been run in but thrashed on the test drives.....I really struggled to get it over 65mph !!

Mine kept stalling, they ended up going an ECU update which seems to have sorted it, fingers crossed, ive done 4600 (ive had it since march 1st this year  ) miles in mine now and the engine seems really nippy now
