rear light/brake light wont come on one side.

Hi guys,

Bit of a weird one and maybe im missing something simple. Rear left hand side light, the bottom bulb wont come on, only comes on if i press brake, however upon turning lights on it doesnt turn on. Now ive changed the bulb as they are dual fillament, but the bulb is fine and changing it made no difference. Ive cleaned the contacts on the bulb holder....but figured if the brake light works and the normal light doesnt it must be something else....

any thoughts people? hoping its not a french wiring issue :|

run a wire from your left brake light holder to your right. solder it. sorted... lol...

Its probly just a short circuit somewhere?

The connectors on the back of the light clusters on Mk2s are made of choclate. Try tightening the clips, aswell as the actual pins in the block plug itself.

Couldnt see how to removee the clip but it looked pritty solid in there...will check it again though...any other thoughts?

Thats a good idea ! connect a working circuit to one you suspect has a short on it. :nono:


Check the connector with a test lead, see if the power is getting that far.

Have you checked the front side light is working......left and right are on separate fuses.
