Rear shock removal

  172 cup
I've looked in the guides section but couldnt find anything on the rear shocks being replaced.

I need to change mine as there not the proper cup one's (damn kwikfit). When i was breaking my ph1 i did remove them but not correctly lol, i was rushing and had the car in the air on stands and undone the top bolts and the axle hit the floor.......oops.

So can someone tell me the method they used, im sure its easy as only a few bolts.

jack against the rear axle to take the weight, undo the bolts holding the shock to the axle, let axle down, remove top bolt inside boot..done

Car on stands. No need to remove wheels.

Remove 18mm lower shock bolts. Let beam drop. Springs will fall out too probably.

Up top, remove nut holding shock in. Let shock fall out.

For fitting, reverse procedure.

As budgie said, take the weight off the axle with the jack but only just take the weight off it, 18mm bolts in the bottom of the shock need to come out. The springs should stay put if you dont drop the axle down.

With the top nuts you will probably have to use a set of mole grips on the top of the shock, there is a little nipple thing that you need to grip while you crack the nuts off with a spanner, think its 16mm or 17mm for the top nuts.

when i did mine i didnt jack it up at all, the shafts on the new dampers were bigger than the standard renault ones so i had to drill out those dust covers so they slide on the shaft, after those are on properly you sould have enough length to get the nuts in the boot on, grip the top of the shaft with a shifter to stop the shaft from spinning, easy job, only took me around half a hour as the bottom bolts were badly rusted
