Rear Spring Broken

  clio 182
hi folks,

Got my car in for an mot today (which it failed on ball joint and rear number plate light.)

anyway I got an advisory for a rear spring which has broken and there saying to change it would cost me £80 for the part alone.
I've searched on ebay and found springs that say they fit a clio 182
for example
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renault-C...arParts_SM&hash=item35b67c1df8#ht_1121wt_1396
I have a 182 with cup packs
would this spring be ok for my car?

Any help is much appreciated folks.
Thanks
Bryan

I can't confirm that's the right part, but I dont see why not.

If it were me I'd use it as the perfect opportunity to get some new springs all round. Eibach Sportlines.

This happened to mine but on the front passenger spring! Apparently its quite a common fault on small cars (So I was told :/)

I used this as an excuse to get a set of new spring all-round and so I settled for a set of Apex.

I bought these for £40 off a guy I know who had bought a set of coilovers and wanted rid of the Apex ones!

If the guy at the MOT Station seems to think its going to cost you £80 for 1 coil you may aswell spend an extra £20/£40 and get a set of Apex or as mentioned before Eibach ones.

its only an advisory. they said since its still held when jacked up its a pass.
Whats the deal with the apex springs or the eibach ones.
are the a stiffer spring, shorter etc?

Genuine are £80 each and springs should always be changed in pairs.

Non genuine are usually crap unless they're lowering springs, they don't have the different versions listed for 172/cup/182/cup packed, so you won't have the right thing on your car

Broken spring is not an automatic fail anymore. If its broken at an extreme end and sits in the cup ok, it's an advise.

Really? You do surprise me, I'm not doubting you at all, so you can have a broken spring pass, but a light on the dash, fail !!

What a world we live in.

It's obviously all down to the tester at the end of the day. I'm pretty hard on them as a rule. Never looks good with a broken spring!

This amazes me when people only buy 1 spring because they are too tight to buy 2... Idiots.

I changed a single one for a mate on his 1.4 megane as he literally does 1 mile to work and back every day. It's back for the other side as soon as I can fit him in LOL, only lasted about 6 weeks.

I took some rather mismatched springs off a 172 ph1 the other week, 1 broken rear, and 1 replaced (non genuine) front. All 4 corners were different
