Rear wheel bearings - fitting without a press

  Clio II Ph2 1.2 16V
I want to replace a rear bearing on my son's 1.2 16V (2001) Clio which has drum brakes at the back

has anyone done this just with tapping the new bearing in with a socket and hammer ?

Or successfully dropped the bearing in after cooling the bearing in the freezer and heating the drum up with a blowlamp ?

If I need to use a press then so be it but as wheel bearings seem a common failure I'm sure someone has some tips on how to do it

Any tips appreciated

You can belt them in and out on problem but its easy to damage new bearing when fitting if not careful. Its far easier with a press though just slip a garage a few quid to press the bearing in when drum is off
