Reconditioned gearboxes

I'm relatively certain my gearbox needs replacing in the near future, who do people recommend sending off your gearboxes to for a recon? I live in west sussex. How much should I expect to pay? I will try to do all the fitting/removal myself(with assistance) as I can use my grandads garage/tools! Are there any specialist tools I would need?

Agency Transmissions are the place to go.

Rung around for a few quotes what fitting would cost through a garage and the last one said it was an engine out job? Thought i saw someone on here say you get it out without lifting the engine? By dropping the subframe iirc? Can anyone share some knowledge?! Thanks

Dropping subframe is the way for removing box itself. a proper garage should be able to do it like this and then bring it to agency transmission in worcester, will only take a few days, he is a top guy!

Yeah I have spoken to the guy at agency, will be doing it myself sometime in the near future! That garage that said they have to left the engine must have been trying to have me on! They rang back saying we've priced up the job, getting a recon gearbox from them, fitted, would be £1900. Haha. Diy job it is!
