I'm racking my brains what red to use.

I'm doing a full respray on a friends astra gsi and i've purchased all the materials and i've ordered pug 306 diablo red (paintcode ekq)....

The problem is...i'm worried he's going to think it's a bit dark/burgandy/maroon.

At the moment his car is solid flame red and he likes how light it is but he wants a metallic finish.

Does anyone have any thoughts on a decent metallic red to use? I've looked through sample after sample but nothing is impressing me. I like diablo red, I think it looks nice in the sun...what are peoples thoughts on it?

If you suggest something, pics would be great.

Oh and don't suggest the renault flame red. :rasp:

Trophy colour is a solid too, so don't suggest that either.

I'm searching google for pics of the s2000 and digital cameras are so s**t for making colours look completely different to how they appear in daylight. Looks a nice colour though and is a definate possibility.

It can be any red you can think of. I don't want to go custom one off in-case i have to do anymore work to it again and getting a good colour match really.

You can get off-the-shelf colours though that aren't manufacturer colours, can't you?

I want to stick to a manufacturers colour to be honest mate because i'm purchasing the materials through a friend of a friend who can get them cheap but nice idea.

Most of the bright reds are solids.

Know where you're coming from though.

I don't think I've seen many light metallic reds unfortunately - as you say, they're all flat reds!

I'd recommend the Ford Radiant red if you can persuade him to a flat colour - when it rains and is grey, somehow it seems brighter than other cars around it, it's weird but ace

Is it standard looking ?? does he just want a normal metallic red paint job, or a funky standard colour ? (i'm still trying to think, not having much success)

He wants a normal metallic red paint job, off any other manufacturer/car. It's pretty std looking, std gsi kit, just lowered, different wheels and exhaust.

I was thinking crysler crossfire but that also looks quite dark/maroon. I think generally most metallic reds are darker than solids.

Too maroon mate, I think he's just being a fussy bugger although if it was my car i'd want the colour right.

He wants it as light as possible i.e almost a solid but a metallic paint. The rx8 velocity red is the nicest and lightest I can find so far. I'm 99% confident it's metallic.

I've already bought the clear coat and all materials. i've even bought the diablo red paint lol. If he says it's too dark i'm praying the paint company will take it back?

make sure its outside in the sun when he comes to look at it, should brighten it up abit, if its in the booth or bodyshop that'll make it darker, so get it outside on the valet n phone him to come down

I think we are going for velocity red. It's a 2 stage paint. I've got a sample of it today from work and it looks good. It's brighter and lighter than the diablo and also has a nice gold fleck to it.
