What's the consensus on things like injector cleaning additives and stuff? Are they and engine placebo, doing feck all for you other than draining your wallet?

Sorry to high-jack your topic Darren, Just wondered I took my air box off and my carb mouth has what looks like filter oil down it and is generally dirty, I was wondering whats the best way to clean the carb I've heard pour redex carb cleaner down the mouth?

Also my car has a really shlt mpg. No where near the average of £1 / 10 miles and it's not as if it's a powerfull car it's a 1.2.

Ive used Forte before and I think it runs a bit better now. Car is approaching 68k so thought why not!

Acid Zero, yeah with the engine at a fast rev, say 3000rpm pour a one shot of redex straight into the carb and wait a couple of seconds till revving it. The amount of smoke it kicks out is incredible! But yeah Djw Daves old ax gt needed it done quite a few times and made a difference.

Forte Engine flush is great stuff, however on high miler cars, if NOT recommented at all, not unless you wanna get a new barrel.

I was just doing a search on forte as was going to give the 16v a flush through before an oil change. What does the above post mean? Is it risky if components are old? It's a K plate with 124k and I wanted to give it a nice clean before the change. I'm not gonna risk any bills though!

I had an AX GT before my clio... you just take your air filter/box off, put the choke on full pour redex in both of the inlets, and let it tick over, then take the choke off and give it a good rev to get the excess redex out the system... O yer use the redex for carb cars!

might run some through my clio its hit 86k now

Forte stuff is good. You can usually find some on ebay going for about £5 a bottle.

I put 2 bottles in my tank in one go with a routine fill up - 1 advanced formula gas treatment (post-combustion), and 1 specialist injector cleaner (pre-combustion). It ran smoother and gave me a few more miles out of a tank.
