Reg-plate screw-holes on the boot?

I'm ordering some new plates for the 182. Nothing flashy/different font or anything, but my originals are definitely looking tatty now. :)

Anyway, the front bumper one I'm fine with as it's clearly screwed on through the plastic. However, what's the best solution to cap off/cover the screw holes left in the boot lid? (WhyTF they couldn't just sticky-pad them on in the first place - I've no idea )

I did just think about taping the holes over, but could this help induce rust by trapping moisture next to the exposed metal? I also thought about dabbing the lips of the open holes with something like Waxoyl underseal in order to stave off rust - or is that just a little excessive? ;)

Any suggestions would be great, guys....

Cheers,
D.

tbh they dont really rust,i removed a original plate from a 2001 clio which was screwed through the boot and there wasnt really fek all there.

I've just Velcro'd on some new plates. For the rear I had four holes to deal with. 2 or 3 had a bit of rust extending 2 or 3mm in some directions from the hole. Scraped it back to bare metal with a small screwdriver, cleaned with meths., dried with hairdryer, applied rust treatment (Kurust I think it's called), hairdrier again, 2nd coat rust treatment, hairdryer again, laquer (didn't have any matching touch-up), hairdrier. Then I applied the Velcro over the top (I heated the panel and the adhesive of the Velcro before applying to ensure a good bond.) IMO You may as well make sure you deal with any bare metal/rust now rather than leave it.
