my old clio has no MOT, tax or insurance and i need to remove my private plate to put on my 172, im i right in thinking if i scrap the car i can then have the plate removed and transfered, Not worth MOTing it as its fooked.

Can't remove or transfer the plate unless the car has an MOT afaik.

Not as easy as that as the DVLA may want to inspect the vehicle.

In thought once you bought a private plate it was yours to keep and you can change the car back to its original plate and transfer you private one to the new car. (not sure on this though)

Like said you can only transfer it of the vehicle if the vehicle has an MOT.

ok, but say i get an mot illegaly and then brake the car up for parts? then obviously i cant show them the car. im stuck in a corner to be honest and cant justify spending loads on the car just to pass an mot and then for it to be scraped. other than that i'll just have to lose the plate which i dont want to.

Is the car total scrap? a dodgy MOT seems like a stupid way to go about it - could you not make the car roadworthy, remove the plate and then sell the car?

i would need to fix the passanger door as it doesnt open, new brakes and would fail on emisions as piston rings are worn and the engine is generaly in a bad condition, handbrake needs tightening. there are so many tings wrong with it, its 12 years old and has done 140k, its dead. to have all this done would cost alot. i would make more money braking the car for parts. reg i got as a present as all my family have ** VAM on there cars. i think its £350 from regtransfers. either i pay £100 for a fake MOT, strip the car, transfer the plate and then scrap it or strip the car and scrap it losing the plate. Would prefer not to do it illegally but dont really have much choice.

As said you cant strip the car until the DVLA have said the dont need to inspect the car, you wont know this until you apply to them remove the number plate which requires an MOT, they are wise to the above no doubt.
