Remap...

  Iceberg 172
Hi everyone,

I'm looking to get my 172 remapped mainly to sort out the idle and anything else would be a bonus (ie better throttle response, better mpg and better mid range).

I'm not expecting a massively noticeable performance increase but...

Is the K Tec Group N map better than the RS Tuner map??

To my knowledge I can go to JMS and for £140 they do the RS Tuner map for you or £300 and K Tec will do the Group N map for me.

The RS Tuner gives a 7200rpm limiter and the Group N is 7800rpm limiter.

So what is better for me? Bearing in mind my engine is std apart from a panel filter. (I have a K Tec Stealth exhaust sitting here but I'm liking the quietness of the std system atm!)

I don't mind spending double if there is a noticeable difference between the 2!

They wont be any noticeable difference which one you go for, alot of people have the rs tuner on there cars and theres lots of good reviews about it, if it was up to me id go for rstuner, you can always sell it on, its a fault code reader, easily downloadable maps and its cheap as chips :D

It's not just when it's cold... on idle it kind of has a little splutter... not badly, I mean the rev counter doesn't move but you can feel it when sitting in the car in silence there's a little splutter... It's like it's got a mild set of cams in it!!

I've heard that all 172's do this and that the remap sorts it out? My cup never done it and that had been remapped.

Fletcher - you say the exhaust sorted it out for you???? I have a SS Stealth exhaust sitting in the garage... I just like the noise of the std system ie no noise!!!!!

RS tuner mate. I asked Henk today if we could do one. Bargain and sorts the idle out. You might have to become a full member though to join in the GB on it.

Yes mate. Mine used to splutter very badly on idle and slow speeds, if I used anything other then V-power.

Now with the SS stealth fitted, I can use any crap (Asda 95 etc) without any probs.

surely though, the k tec one would be better as it is done to the individual car on a rolling road rather than a generic map, so results would be better as its custom to that car and not a general all rounder type thing. dont quote me as im not expert at all but this is what i have been led to beleve other wise why would anyone bother with the group n maps if they are twice the price but with the same outcome.
would like to see the out come of this though as im planing on mapping my 172 too but like the op, not sure which option would be best.

Personally i'm going to go with the RS tuner with or without a group buy going ahead. Obviously I'd wait if one started and i'm happy to start it. See what Henk says. I don't want to increase the limit at all really, as it will put extra strain on the internals. Plus you can use the diagnosics and performance analyser to send off data to Henk so he can tailer a map that might get more out of your mods. Watch this space :)

dont you have to have the more expensive one to do that though and also how much more does it cost to get henk to do a custom map once you have sent the details to him as it could end up being more expencive. not being a tight arse or anything but just want to make sure im making the right decision like the op

Don't think you need the premium model no. If you look at the comparison table on the website all models have the performance analyser with them. Anyone feel free to correct me on this :) Not sure on the custom costing. He didn't mention it last time I asked about it. I can't see it being that much though. When you're looking at around £320 ish at TDF and nearly £400 at RS tuning (from memory) then it would probably still be cheaper.

OK so RS Tuner is probably the solution along with my SS exhaust.

I always use V Power religiously (I have the v power points card as well!) even if i'm in my gf's 1.4 206 I'll use V Power!

I'll speak to JMS as I CBA with all this downloading stuff onto my laptop (well, gf's laptop!) and doing it myself!!!!

Thanks guys!

personally, id go with a re-map to suit the engine every time. as they are all slightly diff.
the gp n map will no doubt be a generic map also, as will the r tuner, gp n map will be the same no matter what car its on. and the r tuner map will again be the same map no matter what car its put on, both generic.

thats why id only recommend getting a custom map for YOUR engine. not a map that worked on someone elses engine 3 years ago. or a mass produced map (gp n)

from what im told, jms will only do the r tuner map anyway. as iv already said. a custom map is the way forward, not cheap but worth it in the long run. chip wizards would get my vote.

Steve honestly Vpower (100, as it is here in italy) is way too expensive, i've seen it at 1.5 euros per liter and more...I usually use Agip Blusuper, is only 5 eurocent more than normal petrol, 98 octane. Maybe it's not as good as shell, but it's 1,40 vs 1,5+

When i'll go for a remap i'll have a custom made for my engine configuration and the fuel I se.

The F4R has a excellent knocksensor so RON 95 or RON 98 makes no difference...
Only in the higher rev's / the F4R sweet spot (VVT) you notice the Premium gasoline.
Below 5 thou who cares, you just truddle along.

About the idle... new fresh sparkies make a noticeble difference!
Pick up is much better!

I'm very happy with my JMS remap, would recommend getting the JMS Works Package as its made a massive improvement to my car.
