Remote central locking range?

hi, is there any way of extending the range of the RCL on a 1.4 RT 'M' reg? I hate always going next to the window, the batteries are new too before you ask. What is it that will affect this? The reciever or the FOB or both? Thanks.

Hold the remote up to your head when you press it. Honest this really works, saw it on Top Gear a few years ago.
