remote wire to turn on amp....

  looking for 172 cup
you should have a blue cable coming out the back of your head unit which is your remote cable.... if not connect it too the swithed live cable of your head unit so the amp will only take power with the ignition on.......

spike, it should be a blue and white cable, but i don't think it exists on the OE wiring

alternatively, connect it to the switchable live cable coming from the ISO loom, this will then turn the amp on whenever the ignition is turned one

alternatively, connect up a simple switch somewhere int he cabin so you can turn it on and off manually

cheers for the help, got it sorted now. i just ran the remote wire up the drivers side and placed a switch under the seat then ran it back down to the amp, using the live and earth terminals on the amp.

so you have got a wire going from your + on the amp to the switch and then back to the rem terminal on the amp?

  Polo + Micra
get it fused asap

get a small inline fuse holder and put on the leg from the + to the switch with something like a 1A fuse

  Polo + Micra
is it a small cable?? because it will catch fire if the only fuse is the one by batt

Can't you do this as well by attatching the remote to the wiring stump on the aerial, underneath the roof interior? Does this take much wiring knowhow?

  Polo + Micra
i don't see how that works but i'd imaging it would be a pain to get to

personally i'd just run fron the switched live at the hu rather than a switch as you still have to remember to switch it off

You can use the Cigarette Lighter as a REM switch : Since the cigarette lighter is only on when the ignition is on.

Cheers. How would you connect the remote up without disrupting the ignition --> HU signal? Not really up on electrical connections!

  Polo + Micra
you can get connectors that dont break the wire just the insulation but can't remember the name of them

why not just connect the remote wire to the remote output on the stereo? :S

or am i missing the point here?

I'm in the same situation, no remote out on the head unit which is some 1980's Clarion banger (I'm not sure it's from the 80's but it might as well be as far as technological advancements are concerned, it doesn't even have RCA ports; I had to buy a lineout convertor from Motor World). How the hell do I find out which is the wire that switchable live one? All I know so far is that it's red or yellow, what if I have both? Sorry to hijack this thread for my own purposes btw whoever started it.

Also can anyone recommend a goodish sub 100 quid headunit I could buy to replace the Clarion one for when I finally get some money? I don't mind buying second hand off the bay or whatever. Does my car have an ISO connector? Sorry for all the noob questions.. this is my first car and as such I don't know a great deal about cars.
