Removing dashtop on mk2 ph2

Where was I going wrong?

Took out all the screws holding it in, but I couldnt get it out. Got the arse with it in the end and have put it back together. Seemed to be caught on the a-pillar cover things - was I supposed to take them out first? Tried taking them off but they felt like they were going to break.

The dash kinda clips into the bottom of the a pillars not sure if this bit is explained very well in the howto guide from memory, ideally one person holding the dash pulling it out towards the centre of the car whilst someone else pushes down at the edges to release it from the a pillars
