Removing heat shield covering hand brake adjuster

I need to adjust my hand brake

has anybody managed to get a long socket over the adjusting nut without taking off the heat shield? would i need a flexi joint atached to a long socket to reach without taking off the heat shield?

what size are the two? adjusting nuts... are they 11mm ?

If i use a grinder to take off the heat shield fixing screws, can i leave the heat shield of? had anybody removed the heat shield and left it off? if so, how hot does the underside of the car get?

yeah i never take them off, i just use a mega long extension and bend it down a bit, bingo

its 1 x 13mm nut

13mm? Cheers matey, I'll buy a long 13mm socket and have a go
