renault C.A.N system

Car  Abarth 500
whats is the C.A.N system? i took my car to a car audio shop the other day and they reckon the C.A.N wiring thing has been broken and might need to be rested by renault??

they could be on about the can-bus system that renault use but im pretty damn sure they dont use it on clios!

hhmmm thats what they think has happend to my car coz the stereo doesnt come on with the ignition any more, i gotta switch it on and off manualy

2001 year, is this bad if the ignition bit of it is fucked? i heard renault will have reset it, and anything to do with renault means mucho £££££

if its just the stereo not working on ignition ,poss fuse , easy to check , rmove the cover and check the feed either side of the fuse , if thats ok , remove the stereo and check the ignition to it , if its there, probably fault in the unit. nothing to do with the CAN. (multiplexing).

lol well i want mine back to how it was....plus it also goes off every 30 mins now :s, dont know what the fuk is wrong with it

You need to check what they mean by broken might just be the furse or wire has gone on the connector by the dashbaord. Its just a system for the car bits to diagnose and chat.

what fuse would only bugger the ignition up on the radio then? doesnt the radio have one fuse for it all?

so them saying somthing has gone on the CAN is kind of lie if it doesnt really do what they say?

wtf? car audio place just called me and said ive blown my car kit coz i connected it to the battery?.......it needs a 12v supply as its shown in the instructions.....but apparently the battery gives out 14v, does it? plus there is a fuse in the live wire so shouldnt of that have blown b4 the system? am i being stupid or is someone telling porkies to me?

Sounds like there talking rubish its difficult for the radio to damage the CAN as its not realy connected to it

they are f**king mental there, lying gits, had a go at me for connecting it to the battery even though i was suppose to, then said i should of put a fuse in the line, even though there is one?? so when i asked if they had put one in, they said no, wtf were they on i dont know, they told me loads of stuff and when i questionsed it they couldnt answer, muppets

The 172s also had a CAN bus on them from 2001/2002. If you remove the ash tray you'll see the OBD connector. If you look closely, you'll see that Pins 6 & 14 are populated. These are CAN H and CAN L.

If you put a multimeter across these two pins (with the ignition switched off!) you'll see a 60ohm resistance, caused by the 120ohm terminating resistances at each end of the bus.

The Clio CAN bus is a high speed bus and runs at 250kbps. I'm still trying to decode all the CAN messages, but if anyone has any information on the CAN messages, please forward it to me.

interesting :)

so whats the benifit of CAN over the older phase clio wiring? purley diagnositc, or less wiring etc involved?

CAN offers a number of benefits. You can have a complete bus running round the car, with all your ECUs on it, and it only requires 2 wires (high and low). The CAN bus is tolerant to a lot of faults, and most buses can actually run in a single wire mode.

With regard to diagnostics, CAN is easier to develop for and use than the old L and K-line systems you used to see on a lot of vehicles.

ah

i'm abit sad when it comes to info like this LOL. I fit alarm systems and some of them use a BUS (id) two wire system

cool.
