Renault Clip or RS Tuner

  Alfa Romeo 145 QV
Hi,

If some of you have seen some of my previous threads you may know that I'm having nightmare fault finding problems with my 182 and cannot get it running.

It's probably about thime that I got hold of some proper diagnostic software as the car can't be moved anywhere.

I've seen the Renault 'Clip' diagnostic software/leads etc advertised, does anyone have any experience of this? Does this have a higher diagnostic functionality that the diagnostic features on the RS Tuner, for example?

Thanks guys....

The proper Clip is the best you can get realy unless you go to custom high spec stuff which is used to debugg systems

RS tuner new version does a lot of the diagnostics you will probly need thou mate .

I'd just take it to someone with clip who know's what they're doing - cheaper than buying anything and less hassle.

Clip is going to cost you £4k+ you can't just use the software on a normal laptop.

Not true, Gloebaid currently sell a CLIP for around £1900 which is software locked and has no support package. The RS Tuner is pretty good for what you'll want, need or use it for though.

They are what are called "clones" and use them at your own peril!

A garage up the road from me had a cloned "Star" which is the dealer level Mercedes tool. They used it on a customers vehicle to diagnose a fault and un-beknown to them right away it had told the body control module that it had daytime running lights (which it didn't). The result, the customers lights were always on no matter what the switch position was. Obviously it could be fixed but thats not the point... they can do funny and potentially expensive things and are not for professional use. IIRC the clone CLIPS have a reputation for killing boards and most eBay sellers claim theirs aren't the cheap Chinese versions which the obviously are.

I used to work for Globeaid... I guess things got cheaper! They were thinking of bringing in a cheaper Dell version rather than the Panasonic Toughbooks just as I was leaving.

Ah right i didn't know that. The cheap version is what they call the Alliance CLIP and its a barebones VCI with a cheap laptop and non of the SRS or Gas testing extras though i'm keeping an eye on Renault as next year (i think) there new CLIP replacement is being deployed.

I have a cloned clip and have had no issues, saved me over 400 pounds in the first plug in, just need to learn how to reprogram and how to use it 100% proper

Just in case you care to know, Globeaid no longer sells (or supports afaik) Clip anymore from the 1st of this month.
