the belts need doing on my 182.. I got a quote to have cam belt kit/aux belt kit/dephaser pulley/crank pulley bolt/cam seal kit/water pump. and oil..i will provide all Renault parts and millers oil./filter. (a Renault dealership down south, are doing a great deal on parts.).(£315) plus oil/filter/coolant
my local Renault have quoted 8/9 hours labour, at a cost of £450.(discounted price).
if I got the parts from them(which are 25% more) the labour will still be the same..total cost is about £800 with my parts, and £900 with theirs ,plus my millers oil (£40) plus oil filter and coolant..they did say, they will do a discount on the oil filter...(ha ha) no joke ...
I thought to change the belts is 5 hours and an other hour for the water pump/coolent.(that's being kind). the oil is 10 mins if that..
most of the parts that need fitting are coming off anyway..
I think they have quoted £450 at full hourly rate(£80 an hour) put it down as just over 5 and half hours..trying to make out am getting a discount...
what will happen in 5 years time, when these cars are only worth £800 if that.. and you take it to Renault, the belts cost more that what's the cars worth..if you sell it ,you have to give the buyer money, you have to knock off the belt price .. ha ha
I feel like writing to Renault uk.. saying you designed the engine. and a belt to last 36,000 miles/5 years You should pay some of the labour costs..
£80 an hour my arse... bet the mechanic is only getting £10 of that....
