Renault Jacks

I wondered why the car wasn't lifting off the deck

the lower your car is, the less you should use the renault jack, as the biggest stress is in the low positions at the part what was bent. and usually there is no weight, but when lower, there is.
Own experience:p

Car is standard. I put the Jack under the rear sill. Turned the handle, once I could feel the pressure and it went slack. Didn't even lift the car off the ground!

Thats strange, rear is much lighter then front. Than it has ended its life cycle I guess :-/

yep- first time i ever used it- must have been abused in the past- just like my car which I believe has had a rear axle because for it's troubles unfortunately they didn't replace the buckled alloy, just swapped it for the spare :(

I don't know your mechanical knowledge, but maybe it would be good to find a specialist local to you to take a look at your 172 if you are unsure about it. These cars must be enjoyed, they are made for it:)

I once went to take off a wheel on the misses 225 using the boot wheel nut bar.. It bent and folded like it was made out of plastic on the first bolt which was a locking wheel nut ... :S

Went and fetched my average wheel brace and came loose easy as you would expect, which now lives in the boot ....

My R26 jack has machined notches in the thread to prevent you lifting the car too high.

It only just lifts the wheels off the ground, and won't go high enough to fit axle stands under.

This makes my working on the car more dangerous, the opposite of what Renault intended.

Not on level ground ( obviously not do able in a few instances) , not using the correct jacking points, over winding it, going to high and general retardism.

Perfectly fine to change a wheel if a bit of common sense used.

Oh and make sure its the correct jack to! Mine has a pin type thing that goes through the hole on the jacking point so that helps by locating it right.

I've spent a fortune getting it through its mot. Theoretically I'm fine with the mechanical side of things. But maybe worth while getting it fully checked over by a local specialist. I believe dtm are my local ones

They are turd. However I have to use mine as the jack I bought doesn't go low enough to fit under my car. Idiot.
