They'll make it back of ya..

ie. instead of giving you 8k trade in on your 182 say, they'd give you only 7k and say ohh and you get the 1k cash back.

So in the end it all works out the same.

I actually think the 197 hasn't been the sales success that renault was hoping it would be. Overpriced from the beginning, no cup version, heavy, dodgy gearing and an expensive option list.

Id buy a 197.

After time i think i would not notice the difference, and i would rarely come across a 182 / 172 to put it against..

The salesman told me he would genuinly knock a grand off.He lost interest when i asked him to knock 200 kilos off to match the performance of my 172 cup!

you saying that reminds me that i recently received a letter from my Renault dealer informing me of an offer of cars at cost price for one weekend only.

anyways i got a phone call from said garage on saturday whilst the event was going on asking me if i'd received the letter and whether i'd be interested in coming in. I politely asked him if he had anything that would compete on a level with a Clio Trophy in stock and the phone went dead....... must have been quiet though for them to actually phone me and ask if i planned to visit the dealership
