Renaultsport Spyder

Was interested to see a Renaultsport Spyder at Mathewsons auctions - "Bangers and Cash" TV prg, most probably a rerun.

Never seen one of these before and wondered if it was based on the V6 Clio or what?
and if anyone on here has one.

It went for 25K at the auction and pretty rare car in UK apparently.

2.0 16v engine, Same as in the Mk1 Williams Clio iirc.
My mate had one as a track car when they were circa £5/6k. Went well to be honest but the handling was terrifying. He got called Flymo by the stewards as he spent so much time in the grass. He then chucked the keys to an instructor who span it twice in one lap. He’s really tight though so it probably had s**t/old tyres on it.

cool cars though, but like most stuff of that era, I think we’ve all missed the boat now. They’re mental money.

It's crazy because at the time when all the clios were cheap (williams/v6/cup) it never really crossed my mind they'd become so collectable so quickly, even though it was pretty obvious when the old fiestas and 205s were already.

I look at the (affordable) cars made since that are now in a similar bottom price position and nothing at all is even remotely interesting. Modern cars are s**t really, but they have DAB and heated seats so we like them.

I thought it looked quite good from the front and side and quite modern, not keen on the rear end though -which I suppose has to accommodate the mid-ships 2.0L Did anyone else see this episode -I'm a big fan of Bangers and Cash, lots of quirky people like me.

I absolutely love it. And next year I want to take the wife away up there for a long weekend and accidentally stumble across that place on auction day.

2000's and on are weird for that, few companies really make proper stand out cars. Alot that used to packed it in.

VAG pumping out endless GTI's and R's is probably half the reason, set the bar really high for affordable performance.

Since Covid the auction has moved to an industrial estate in Pickering, nowhere near the same.
Hopefully they'll move back to the village hall setup, not too far from me so go that way a bit, plus the road from Thornton le Dale to Sleights is one of the best

Fella who runs my building has owned two, bought after he sold his Hummer. He now has a Smart Crossblade. All owned to, I quote, ‘show off to all the boys’

I’m not saying you have to be gay to own one, but it helps.

I've had two Spiders, still have the yellow one but sold the blue trophy last year.
