well I didnt know, and its a lot better than having to queue for at least half an hour in a post office - that is when you can find one that actually does car tax applications.

Cheers Mike :D

You have to know the ref number from the V5. It verifies insurance via the insurance database that the police and solicitors use. Not sure how it copes with MOTs, but theres a lot of explaination on the site.

that is really useful, i heard they were doing trials of this a few months ago with a small group of guinea pigs so am glad they have rolled it out. Im surprised I havent seen any adverts for it though.

Cool, also means you get one printed by a machine and not hand written.

I was going to go to the DVLA to get my renewel, just so I got a clean looking disc. :p

  Yaris Hybrid

This wasnt very well advertised!! You think the Govt would have been promoting this heavily?

Well played Mike.

  Polo GTi

Apparently you have to be invited to use this service it will appear on you Tax remider, as I just rang the DVLA, trying to tax my Willy.

Apparently you also have to have a car under 3 years old at the moment, and be insured by Ford?? something or other to use the online form.

Pile of sh*t really as I still have to trundle down to the post office for my tax.

At last!!!!!!! i dont have to spend 2hrs queuing with old bints discussing the local gossip at the PO :D

fair enough, but this is not a thread about the validity or otherwise of road tax, its a public information announcement informing you that you can do it online :D;)

Do they accept credit cards yet ? They said sometime in 2004.

Would be nice to pay by credit card. £160 is a lot of money to find in one hit.

Damn, mine is due to be done on the 1st, not enough time to do it online!

Why how long does it take?

You get 2 weeks Grace with road tax anyway.

Currently only debit cards.

Also need to be a new style computer generated MOT certificate.

What if your car doesnt have an MOT ?? eg < 3 years old ?

Oh and excellent find, didnt know about this at all, yes it is a waste of money and pointless ripoff etc... but at least it makes it easier for me to let them rip me off.

how do they tackle the MOT then?
Appears that new style MOT is certificate is computer generated, and so is a central database somewhere that knows about your MOT.
