Repairing a RS steering wheel

Sib

Car  Clio 172 (Silver)
I've been using a cover to hide the damaged rubber but I'm getting sick of it and want to try and repair the rubber grips.

I dont fancy haggling or paying top dollar for a new one, taking the airbag off scares me a little so I'm going to try to cover the damage.

Has anyone attempted this before with any success and if so what did they use, are photo's available.

I'm thinking of getting some adhesive covering and shaping with a modelling knife to the shape of the grips.

May drop some pictures when done

well

like best laid plans this failed, just couldn't get the shape of the grip right.

back to the drawing board.

i'll need a steering wheel to make a pair of moulds from (anyone got one knocking about?)

not gonna be that bad i would think, its not massive amounts of material

Could you do it before FCS?? ;)

I've removed the rubber from mine as it was looking shabby...so its just the plastic bits under the rubber I have on mine...Steering wheel is still on car, but can go over so you can get a mould...if I get a discount! ;)

these are obviously phase 2 wheels

there needs to be a solution for the ph-quicks too

I've bought a second hand one and then found out a mate at work's brother works as a car upholsterer.

They do old knackered bentleys turning them into new cars, and old racing cars. He's going to retrim my wheel a lot cheaper than other places have quoted on here :)

If he didn't hate doing the job I'll ask him how much for a job lot...
