How much of a pain in the arse is it?

Also, can it be done onthe deck or is a ramp job? I need it done asap :(

Cheers!

Its very much doable on the driveway, although easiest way is to just remove the exhaust manifold as its a 172 and hence that bit of the job is a bit of a pain where it joins the cat, but so long as you can do those 2 bolts ok, the rest is plain sailing.

If you have a 182 manifold then you have to leave the manifold connected to the exhaust really and just disconnect it from the head, but it is still doable.

Not a massively pleasant job, probably take you a couple of hours if you havent done it before.

did mine on a ramp at K-tec (so borrowing tools) when a wire broke, in about 45 minutes. bit easier on mine though with ITBs, loads of space.

There's no need to disconnect the manifold from the exhaust, just unbolt the manifold from the head, pry it back, and wedge something there to hold it away (small piece of wood etc). you'll have enough room like that.

You will need axle stands, or what I prefer for stability, good wheel ramps, as it has to come out from below

If you know what to do it could be worse. Took me a while, but it was my first time. The most annoying bit was refitting the heat shield. I bolted the start back in place, and couldn't for the life of me put it on, so had to unbolt it (only had one bolt in thank god), removed the wiring, and do some manipulations. On again now thank f**k. Why on earth do they need to fix it on with 3 large bolts :S, the closest top one being a right ball ache. Not sue if a specific tool would make that one easier mind.

Wish I had seen this before a weekend of swearing :( the manifold doesn't half get in the way, but it is still possible without undoing it, but you have to bring the starter up next to the coolant reservoir.
