Replacing Faulty Alternator and track day concerns, HELP!

I've got the Stop and Battery light coming up on my dash, I've read that its possibly a faulty alternator, I've check the battery via the light and thats green. I dont have access to a voltmeter so cant actually check it.

Renault wanted £200+ to supply and fit with a new belt. I don't think so when ebay the alternators are going for about £40.

So can I simply buy one and replace it or do I need and specialist tools for the belts, also would i need to replace the belt?

I also have a track day tomorrow and im very concerned that if my alternator is packing up that doing a track day will cause no end of problems.

Yeah sure is. Could I simply just replace the alternator then?

Any thoughts on the track time? Im only there for 3 hours as a bit of fun, but pushing it for 2-3 hours wont do it much good im assuming?

If the battery light is on, its probably not charging. If its not charging the battery will eventually run flat driving it... as everything needs power to work..

Is the alternator belt still fitted/attached? If so its probably the alternator...

What age/plate is your car? 1.2 16v? If its the newer style engine I know Rob still has his alternator that I'm sure he would sell you cheap..

The battery light and Stop light is on and the belt is still on and is running fine.

Its the same as robs actually. 1.2 16v 05 plate. (ph3) As long as his didnt have air con then it'll be the same one. I'll drop him a PM.

Yep its the same one... If you want it from him let me know. I know hes working every night this week but if you need it I can bring it up to you/fit it for the cost of fuel.

I've sent him a PM. So ill probably grab that off him and if you don't mind fitting it ill obv give you some cash your way. I'll need it doing asap this week though. Thanks jords

No problems... If the alternator isnt charging you wont get far on just the battery, I got about 4 miles in the Mk1 lol. If you need the car for tomorrow bringing it up tonight isnt a problem, just drop me a PM

Yeah, well it was in the dark when I did it, so had all the lights etc on too. I can always test it first with a multi meter to see if it is (or isnt) charging

Ok, robs replied and said he can supply me his for £30, so are you ok to collect it from him and come over today and get it done?

I'm at home for the rest of today now so when ever is good for you will be brilliant!
