Replacing Gearbox Mount - Help Please!

  PH1 V6
I have just changed my top engine mount to a k tec one which was easy enough.

Got round to do the upper gearbox mount and it just seems absolutely impossible to get to the bottom nut..... i can get the top one off but not the bottom.

Sounds stupid i know but how the f*cking hell do you change it? i tried using every spanner known to man and you cannot get a rachet under there because there is no room!!!!

HELP?

I took the passenger wheel off and the arch liner to get to it but you cant actually get any leverage on the bolt. all you can do is hold a spanner on it and stop it from moving. but what good is that when the top one just comes loose?

all i actually need to know is how do you get the bolt out? do you have to get the nut off both ends? i thought of knocking the bolt with a hammer but there is no room underneath for it to fall out? im confused

  Nothing at the mo :(
i know it took us ages mate.. but from the forum it seems we was doing ok :S alot of people have moved the ECU...

It should be easy guys..

Slacken off the nuts, smack with a hammer..

Undo the nuts, smack with a hammer..

It should come off then

Support the gearbox with a jack

Make sure the stud is tight (I removed mine and put some loctite on)

Refit the mount

Torque it up (dont just razz them up an the M8 bolts can snap!)

Should the mount just pull out WITHOUT the long bolt attached? or do we need to take the whole bolt out with it too? Im usually alright with all things like this but this one i am being massively retarded i swear

i agree i think we was just being retarded lol... nearly as retarded as putting a bolt in the battery clamp hole and then thinking we lost a bolt haha

LOL... think about that, if the bolt came out of the same hole surely it would be useless and not holding the mount in place ;)

the bolts drop out the bottom of the cast battery tray / mount ;)

How the hell does it do that? there isnt any room for the bolt to drop out of the bottom? i could just about get my hand under there because the bolt would simply fall straight onto the box. i really dont get it lol. sorry for the confusion

and what i meant by the mount pulling out is that would only be possible once the top 3 nuts have been taken off

You don't need to take the middle bolt out just leave it, don't bash things with a hammer ffs as the battery tray cracks really easily

As said by PM, this is why I gave you the whole mount in the first place.

Just unbolt the whole thing from the gearbox and the car, and swap it over!
