Hi All,

im about to undertake a respray myself, i have all the equipment and reasonable skill with a gun, but id like to know what gritt of wet and dry to use once its been fully primered???

Also once its been sprayed and laqured, is there any thing needed to be done to the finish? ie.. rubbing down etc etc..

Thanks for any info.

ok once its in primer, wet flat the entire car with either P800/P1000 or P1200. The P800 will take less flatting as its more coarse but you may go through in the odd place n need to blow a little more primer on.

once its all wet flatted, make sure its 100 % dry, get your airline down the door mouldings, in handles, down the edges, round locks, everywhere, make sure its spotless.

clean the car with panel wipe.

give the car a tak-rag (sticky rag that gets rid of dust), then your ready to start applying your basecoat.

give it a coat, let it dry, give it another let it dry, keep building it up til its covered.

leave it to dry for 20 mins or so then give it another tak ragging. this makes sure theres no crap gone in the paint in the 20 mins youve been waiting for it to dry.

give it a good coat of laquer, not too runny, but not dry either, just a half finish. leave that to go off for a while, then give it a nice wet second coat to get a finish.

bake it off, or put your heaters in, whatever youve got for an hour or so.

once the laquers dried and cooled down (check by pressing your thumb on an area, if it leaves an fingerprint, let it bake off some more, if it leaves a mark that wipes off, its good to flat)

any bits of s**t in the laquer can be flatted down with P1500 or P2000, orange peal/runs/fish eyes etc

then ide recommend to polish it back up with G3 on a mop, keeping it wet, not letting the panel get too hot.

any questions just ask
