Respraying Help....

  Clio Dynamique Noir
Okay so I actually have searched (before anyone says it :rasp:) and havent found what I am looking for...so if someone can give me some advice or point me in the right direction I would be very greatful!

I want to respray a few parts on my car:

Front Grille. Satin Black

Front Callipers. Black, hammerite?

Front Bumper Mouldings

Spoiler

So for the last two im guessing I would have to get a colour match with my paintwork...if i do them satin black like the front grille Im assuming it will just look cack! So I think I have my paint code, should I buy some aerosol cans of my paint? Would that be best? Guessing its going to be expensive from Renault though! Or is there somewhere else you can buy Renault paint from??

Any help or advice would be appreciated!!!

Thanks very much!

Mark

The mouldings and spoiler - don't bother unless you're going to a bodyshop, seriously. It will look better standard than with a rattle tin paint job on it.

Hammerite is fine for the calipers.

hammerite for the calipers and rattle cans for the moldings will be fine mate. pearl black came up fine when i sprayed it with rattle cans, did a whole bumper

you can buy the correct paint from halfords or a spray shop can get it for you. however i have a load of primers and pearl black paint un-opned if your interested in some cheap as i have no use for it, pm me

Do you not think I could achieve an alright finish on the mouldings? And the plastic looks pretty rubbishy! I don't really have the money to take them to a bodyshop, assuming theyre going to charge a lot more than the parts and things needed for the job!
Do I need to take the callipers apart to spray them or tape up the surroundings? If so is it easy to do?
Thanks!

How did you do your callipers? If you dont mind me asking! Have you got any pics of yours please? I need to phone up Renault and ask them for my paint code, not sure what it is! Ah cheers matey, where did you get the paint from? WIll it match mine?

Thanks for the help!

I painted my callipers (but red to match my car) lol all it was, was a tin of Brake Paint from Halfrauds (in a light blue tin about 6 quid) then using small brushed (but get DECENT brushes or you will find bristles stuck in the paint) then mask up and paint. We did my friends with hammerite just wash and repeat really make sure you use a wire brush to scrub the callipers down the best you can. As for painting things with a rattle can I did my spoiler with rattle cans and came out shiny and professional its all about technique keeping the same level of paint per pass. Don't leather it on or it will run and go sh*t.

Also make sure when priming rub the primer smooth with 1200 - 2000 grit emery cloth. Then VERY light coats of your chosen paint that you can get from halfrauds (or like me ) a local paint mixing shop for aerosols. I did 1 coat of primer then 4 coats of paint. Also use water when rubbing down with emery cloth to stop any primer and paint clogging up the emery cloth. Also when youve done the 4 coats of paint I rubbed it down with plenty of water and 2000 grit emery cloth (only a bit to smooth any surface imperfections) then use G3 to rub it down a tiny bit more and polish it. Then wax and polish to your hearts content :)

Sorry its long winded its just what I do to paint things lol

<-------- post and return if you struggle mate. If you want it to look like the car was born colour coded etc, then go to a professional. If you have a go yourself mind you, if you fail most bodyshop worth there salt, wont look at respraying it without stripping it and starting again, thus incuring costs.

bodyshop every time mate.. wont cost much more. the finish will be 100% better and alot more durable.

i assume you take pride in your car so a little extra cost will be well worth it.
