Rev Counter help!

  306 GTI-6
Hi,
I've just registered and have been looking around the site, seems very informative and friendly and you all seem happy to help!

I have recently bought my first car, a 1992 Clio RL and i'm very happy with it but it does not have a rev counter which I would really like, I have bought an aftermarket one but I need to find out where the sender unit for the rev counter is, I have been told by a local car electric company that it is possible to fit but as I am on a budget I would like to fit it myself.
Has anyone done this or know where the sender unit is?

Thanks in advance
Martin

Thanks for the replies, It's not a fuel injection model. How would I go about attaching it to the coil?

Thanks in advance

I got mine from motorworld, It cost £30, it comes in it's own pod, whie faced, it illuminates in the dark and you can set the redline and when it reaches that it lights up a different colour to tell you to change gear.
Does anyone know how to attach it to the coil? Also what is the redline on 1992 1.2? 6250rpm?

Thanks

You could just get a full guage from an rt or a 1.4 with a rev counter and should just plug in and play if you didnt want the hassle

as its not injection chances are it wont work without some kind of sender unit, if its not injection is it the 1.1 model you have? didnt know they did a carb 1.2 RL

To be honest i'm not sure whether it is injection or not, going by the haynes manual my car has the E7F engine which is non injection I think, is there an easy way to tell if it is injection or not?

Just read the manual properly and found out that it is an injection engine so will it be a straight connection to the coil?

Yes the instructions say: Attach to a feed that is only powered when the ignition is on (I was going to use the fag lighter) Another lead goes to a decent earth, and the third wire goes to "your vehicles tacho sender point" So they aren't much help really!

the 1.2 are injection.
the easiest thing to do would be get a dash from a RT then u get the water temp aswell.
all the wires for the rev counter are taped up behind the dash will take u about half hour to change, and will only cost about £10 from your local scrappy

Thanks 4836, So do you mean that the wires will be taped up behind my dash? So it would just be a case of finding them and plugging my rev counter in? If I went got one out of an RT would I have all the wiring for the temp gauge aswell?

Sorry for all the questions!!

yeah everything the same as your dash i did the same to mine. the ones for the rev counter is a black 2 pin connector (or 3 pin). it's just taped to one of the wiring looms. then if u get a oil level gauge from an RT that will work aswell. you'll have this connector on the back of sump somewhere aswell
