My rev counter keeps sticking and needs a punch to get it moving again!

What can this be? has anyone else had this problem?

Me! Dunno what the problem is - had the dash apart and the pod out and messed with the connections and span the rev counter dial thing round to check it wasnt sticking - and it still doesnt read right :(

tell me bout it Kelly, ive had mine apart to and it turns fine, when mine decides to work it works perfect for all of 30 seconds the buggers up again!

I cant believe this has been looked at 30 times and nobody can help!!!!!!!

Tis very annoying especially if being chased by a VTS like last night and you hit the limiter and he gets the edge and passes ya!!

Yeah Mine Sticks Occasionly mate!

Seems to do it a bit when cold. Try replacing the cable maybe. Might be a bit frayed or old.

Last year both my Speedo and Rev counter cable snapped. Drove round for 3 weeks without both!

But no Speedo seems to f**k the idle up!

I once didnt buy a 16v cos the rev counter stuck.

Well amongs other things then.....like a gearbox that had been put back together wrong......

Mine did this on me old RT, I fixed it and all was well.

To fix it all I did was remove the rev counter from the instrument display, I may have had to remove the plastic front (it was ages ago), I did regret removing the plastic as it looks dodgy if any future owners ever take it out to replace bulbs... its glued on at factory... you might be able to remove counter.. anyway...

When I moved the needle it was free as anything, strange I thought..

You have to note the EXACT postion of the needle at rest.. then using a flat screwdriver, I carefully removed needle by putting the screwdriver under the central circular part of the needle. Then I replaced it back on with a snap, at the exact same position... it may sound a little odd or far fetched but give it a try.. mine worked fine after that. It stuck at random positions when I first got car but was for as long as I had the car after that.. 4 years in all.

I should also say when I put it back on, I didnt push it on fully, there or there abouts but there was a little gap between the circular part and the dial to prevent if from sticking... so when I say snap it back on, ignore that part... carefully put it on!

Thanks Chris1.4RT, i will give it a go at the weekend mate!

If anyone else has some more info it would be greatly appreciated!

same happens to mine, only seems to do it when cold for some strange reason:confused: Ive just left it. Its just one of those niggley things that can wait.

Was driving my mate home and had a play around, if i push the top right hand corner of the clear perspex my rev counter works fine untill i stop pressing it!!

Will have to have a look at the weekend!

Any one else with this problem id recommend they try this!!
