Rev Drop

Hey all, anyone else have a problem with their revs when they switch their heater on?!? when is off its fine but when the heaters on full the revs drop down to about 500. Been doing this for a while now and wondered if anyone else has this problem. Cheers

How old is the battery? Its probably shot, any trouble starting?

yeh sometimes it don't start but had the battery changed about a year ago, its a genuine renault battery with a green peep hole to tell you if the battery needs changing and its still green, blacks for changing so it reckons?!?

What voltage is it charging at? You getting 14.4v?

ok so i've bought a dmm from an electrical store and tested the battery, when everythings off i'm getting 13.6 and with the engine idling and the lights and heated rear window on i'm getting 14.10v. Sound about right?!

Thats sounds about right mate

But im sure a few folk will clarify this.

If you really wanted you could put more load on battery etc to check it more by putting heaters on full blast as well as heated window etc and see what it reads then.

yeah i'll try that. The battery seems to be ok but its due an m.o.t soon so i'll see it it fails on anything else. cheers all

The heaters and fans will sap some power from the engine, like electronics do. Ever turned your lights on full beam then off and seen the revs fluctuate? Id of thought with a warm engine and heaters on full blast you should expect to see a drop in revs. Not sure what it should idle at when warm the engine though.
