Review and Pictures of my Mk3 DCi Expression

  Civic Vtec y0
Well had the car for just over a month now and being honest I am quite disappointed in it. The car is only leased but has a 10k price tag, if I had got the cash together or got it on finance then I would be even more upset. However the fact that I can hand it back in 6 months and not pay a extra penny softens the blow a bit.

Lets start with the looks, from the outside the car looks as it should. IMO the alloys suit it and generally it looks very smart for a small car. No massive bits of gash plastic etc. However the inside is a different story, seat patterns are horrific along with the massive blue bit on the dash!? Why not just make the full dash black? Would have looked so much better IMO. The huge blue bit makes it look even cheaper!

I thought the car would be super economical being a 1.5 Diesel with only 68bhp. This is what had swayed me towards the car, as I was particularly keen on many other aspects, due to the intended use for the car. However again I am disappointed, The computer says I average 50mpg, which is good considering the car hardly ever see's a motorway but in reality its no where near that. It uses about the same amount of fuel as my old Megane 1.6 Coupe. Computer might be saying its economical but the fact is...well its not really!

Performance and handling also let the car down. I wasn't expecting much performance wise due to the engine but christ this thing is slow, so slow that when a learner puts their foot down in 3rd I don't get the slightest bit nervous! As for handling, well it can under-steer at about 15mph so you get the idea!

Overall though for a small car its what I expected really, the thing that annoys me is the price tag. £10,000!! Ten thousand Great British Pounds! I dont know about you but that's a lot of money to me and I would be very disappointed if I had saved or took a loan for that amount to end up with this car.

Anyways, most of you will probably have turned off by now and hit the back button already but here's some pictures...

It is nice mate, but i agree its alot of money for what it is. I paid just over £18,000 for a 197, for a 2.0 hatchback thats rediculously expensive. £2,000 more an i wuda had myself a megane 230 lol

Thats not a Clio expression.

But that aside, a very factual review. I personally think the Clio mk3 is a steaming pile of cow s**t. I could write a list 50 long of things that are s**t about it. Awful Awful things. I had a dci 106, dci 86, 1.4 & a 1.2T and they were all piles of toss.

I did have a 197 also, Renaultsport Clio 197 is 10/10 though, loved it.

Billy basic spec though so no surprise, £10K?!
You can get a 1.2 TCE in Dynamique trim and metallic paint new for £9995, prob less than that now.
I quite like the dci 86 in Dynamique spec.

id agree with everything you say my trip says im doinging 60 odd im getting 51 from my 86 they are no way as good on fuel as they claim i dont have the blue trim mines a dynamique so ive got silver trim the center consol is black an ive got a soft touch dash the 86 imo i find quite nippy but the extra weight an handling lets it down

looks smart though

that may be an extreme though

engines i think loosen up quite well with miles, ive been very impressed with the performance of my dci 65 mk2 dynamique (which is obviously a bit lighter)

my mums got a mk3 but a 1.2 petrol and ive found it to handle brilliant and find it quite hard to make it understeer! and its just got the steel wheels on it so it must be that big heavy engine!

Nice honest review.

My sister has a mk3 138. Had i not personally lifted the bonnet and checked for myself that it was a 2.0 i wouldnt have beleived it. My christ its slow.

I dont know how renualt have done it, but they've made a 2.0 petrol supermini sound and feel like a diesel, but without the torque. Dont even start me on the roly poly handling.

There is a lot of confusion as to what it is tbh, according to Renault you cant get a 3dr expression but when I put my reg in for insurance quote's it comes up as a expression :S

I knew it would be basic but wasnt fussed, its the performance, handling and fuel economy that are gash! If I had paid 10k I would have had to take KY Jelly along with me

On a run I can get about 55mpg but round town can sometimes be about 30!

Well excatly lol! I know you loose most of the value as soon as you leave the showroom but still a rip off IMO
