Rhayader (again)

  C63 AMG
Keef and I discovered the best road we have driven, by far, this year - the B4368! It runs from the A49 south of Shrewsbury to the A488 near Newtown, and it's outstanding in every way.

It has a complex of hairpins, a series of chicanes, long straights and sweeping 3rd and 4th gear corners. I seriously recommend you get yourself on it.

We also travelled the length of the second best road I've driven this year - the B4518 (as well as adjoining unclassifieds). Mid Wales is better than both South and North; you just need to know where to go. North Wales is a little more obvious: you have the 'triangle', the B4391 and B4407, all of which are great roads. South Wales gives you the monumental A4069.

Nonetheless, neither of these regions has the mix of scenery and roads offered by the roads that radiate from Rhayader. Here are some pics:

i was seeing a girl from wales so every weekend i got to go round all the backroads of wales. i found some amazing roads, i managed to rack up 4000 miles in 6 weeks mostly flying round small b-roads :) i think i had more fun finding roads than seeing her lol

Cheers guys. I am not willing to organise meets into Mid Wales - I prefer a maximum of four cars driven by those I know well - but I am more than happy to give you the routes I take. Every RS driver must go to Wales at some point in their life.

I never normally agree with you on anything, but i do this time. I can think of nothing worse than driving fast roads with a load of F1 wannabe's.

Passport to hospital imo.

You're absolutely right. I have seen one too many rolled and smashed cars to ever take a convoy of cars on deserted Welsh roads.
