The national guard here recently (18 months ago) replaced the C130 with the C17. Both huge aircraft, and it’s great seeing them lumbering around the airport.

I went on the Saturday and had a good day, bloody long one tho! I was very surprised alot how agile the A400M was.

Would love to go to RIAT, next year definitely, need to check the enclosures out to make it a wife friendly trip.

We did Yeovilton the week before this year, will start a thread with some pics but would like to get to Fairford next year as well.

C17 just look bloody massive up close and inside, saw a load of them lined up at an Air Force vase in the US a few years ago and was a cool sight

I think there are 5 stationed here, and they often park them up alongside one of the runways, so if you take off or land on the right runway, you get a decent view of them. And yeah, they’re just massive.

The Antonov 124 was here a little while ago too.

Hopefully my next trip out here plane wise will be to one of the boneyards out in CA or AZ.

That was exactly it, we got diverted from JFK to a nearby airfield/airbase to land and refuel as we didn’t have enough to keep circling (diverted due to Obama landing/taking off so everything got put on hold).

They were just lined up all along the runway, can’t remember how many of them there were other than it was a lot!

I do FRIAT which basically means you get the best view in a grandstand, private area etc. It’s great for departures day on the Monday
