rigging up alarm - slight problem

Got meslef a shark alarm from maplins the other week. Began to fit it the other day, but ive come across a few technical confusions.

And before u ask - I have read the instructions hehe.

Its not an all singing all dancing one but hopefully it shoud do the job.

Anyway.. I wire up the correct wire to the fuse for the interior light, and the 2 correct wires to the fuse for the indicators. Before getting any further .i.e rigging up the fan motor failure and other accessories. I pressed the key fob and i heared the chirp, but all the needles and instrument pannel lights flash and move in time to the chirps, and my sidelights flash instead of my indicators.

Im a bit confused, and ive wired them to the correct fuse.

Any ideas?

cheers

Doesnt sound like it :p

Best check what you done mate... ;)

Sounds to me like youve got one of the wires for the indicators mixed up with the one you have connected to the interior lighting fuse, hope this sorts you out mate!

well the indicator wires are white, and the interior light is red lol. not mixed up, but ill have a look in the morning.

Take the fuse out to your side lights, then if they light up you know it is wrong.

Then take the fuse out for your indicators......

If the whole dash is flashing to the alarm, then youll have just tapped into the sidelight wire and not the indicator one. coz when you put your sidelights on, the dash is meant to light up.

The interior light power supply youve wired up sounds right, coz you wouldnt be getting power for the alarm otherwise.

Grab a test lamp or look in the haynes wiring diagrams (very hard to understand though!)

Hope this helps!

cheers m8

Thing, its not just my lights that illuminate, all the needles move and everything, seems like its comming straight of the ignition.

Anyway, my m8s gonna do it for me sometime lol

Now that does sound strange!

Dont see how you couldve got an earth off the interior light fuse? The live is clearly bright red. The alarm wouldnt work full stop if it was an earth youd tapped into surely?

Best bet is to disconnect the sidelight/indicator wires, and try find them again. There could possibly be a single wire you could go off located on the wiring of the hazard switch surely? coz that activates all indicators.

Dont necessarily listen to me, as i aint exactly an expert! Just a suggestion!

whatever it was it was a linked to quite a few things so indicating an earth wire or commen feed.putting feeds down the wrong wires can play havoc with electronics.
