Ripping DVDs

Ok. Just got an external HDD to free up some room on the PC.

And after watching a whole season of 24 yesterday (new record?) I am thoroughly bored of swapping disks and navigating the menu because they neglected to add a "Play all" function on their menu.

So anyway, what programs will I need to rip the video from say a disk of 24. I'd want to put it into mpg or wmv so I can watch it on the XBox.

Ok,

I've got DVD Decrypter and AutoGK to make the avi files.

Not sure if it's carried the AC3 over, but it's good quality so far. All of this just because the XBox doesn't play Region1 DVDs and I can't be bothered to plug in my Pioneer that's sat under the bed.

how is it possible to watch them all in one day, its like 17 hrs so even no stop would take you from 8 in the morning until 1 the following morning, surely that is too much tv to concentrate on non stop!

i have done a whole season of 24 in a weekend, with a few episodes on a friday night, and then the rest on the saturday and sunday, and even then it felt like waaaay too much tv to watch all in 1 weekend, although i found it easier to keep track of the story when i was watching them one after the other.

Well actually it was more like 2am to 12pm. I did stop a couple of times, but only because the disk changing broke the spell. That and I couldn't feel my jaw and arm.

do you mean 2am - 12am as 12 pm would be midday and thats not enough time to watch the series, you must have been knackered and your eyes sore after that lot though

Watch out Mr Khunt, DK doesnt allow anyone to lie about watching 24. lol.

Each episode runs for 42mins, that includes the first 2mins which is a reminder. So really all 24 could be done in 16hours.

I watched 12 in one session once.

piss off, i'm not saying hes lieing at all, i find it amazing he managed to stick it that long, i love tv but theres no way i would put myself through that.

16 hrs is a technical possibility but then we have changing discs, toilet stops, food and drink and really, fast forwarding through the recaps, ball ache.

Yep, I didn't think it could be done. But it got to the evening and I only had a disk and a half left.

Changing disks is such a pain in the arse, ripping all my seasons to hard disk now so I don't have to in future:)

And to comment on your previous post, yes, I was fooked afterward, infact I don't even remember watching the last couple of episodes! lol.

i've never done any of the series that way, always watched them 1 a week as they were aired, just couldn't wait until the end of the series to watch them although some people swear its the only way to watch them, back to back but i just couldn't wait!

Yeah I know what you mean, but it works both ways.

When season 6 was aired, I only found out when it'd been going for a couple of weeks. So I of course hit the internet and downloaded the 5 episodes going... It didn't matter that I only had 7 hours before I was meant to be at work... It's 24.

But anyway, I finished those, and then it was like waiting to fall asleep for Christmas as a kid. I managed to kick the habit after a couple of weeks. And then I just kept my mind off it until it was out on DVD.

Yep, all about the boxsets dude! I don't have the patience to wait a week in between episodes, more sometimes as shows have breaks over Christmas in USA.

Thanks to "certain internet sites" can stream whole series as soon as they are available.

I have been able to get through all of the following, every last episode of each that has ever been shown...not sure to be proud or ashamed:

24 (6 series)
Lost (3 series so far)
Heroes (2 series so far)
Sopranos (6 series plus episodes)
Curb Your Enthusiasm (4 series I think)
Deadwood ( 3 series)
Frasier (7 series I think)
South Park (9 series)
Familly Guy (5 series)

And yes I am a student  hehe.

That is actually a shocking amount of downtime!
