Road Angels

What are these like to use?...

Are they effective? And what advantages and disadvantages of these are there?

Any reviews from owners of a Road Angel?

Matt/Trev are they not making the Road Angels illegal soon? The ones with Jammers in?

I don't want to buy one and then for them to ban then in a year or so? Have you got one Rich? I'm assuming the Plus has got the detector/jammer?

Haz whats your budget, I saw a camera detector for £50 in our motor parts place the other day, looked pretty basic though.

LOL

None of them have jammers. I was in the car with a buddy recently with a RA. I saw the little blacked out window on the front and asked what it was for and suggested remote control of some sort as an answer.

He said, no mate, it's a laser detector for mobile speed traps. Oh the humour to lighten up a work day.

Detectors aren't illegal in any way, shape or form. And the only useful detectors are radar detectors. Bell and Valentine make the best ones.

The plus point over things like Road Angels is that they only go off if the camera is active (which is more than handy on motorways with variable speed limits).

The negative points is that sometimes you don't get a lot of warning (as low as 50m sometimes).

Jammers, ARE illegal, laser jammers are only illegal if you're using them to jam police guns though, they use a licence free wavelength so you're not breaking the law by having one on your car, but police wouldn't see it like that if they ever questioned it.

Radar jammers do exist, and they are available, but not readily and not to the public. They're highly illegal to own and can even get you a 10 year custodial sentence for having one. Bit pointless too seeing as the only things that use radar these days are GATSOs and if you can't see them then you shouldn't be driving;)

Tomtom is s**t from what I've used. Comes up with random speed limits and obscure mobile camera locations (probably phoned in by the public mistaking a VOSA vehicle).

Garmin Nuvis actually have a pretty decent camera warning system and haven't noticed any mistakes on it, but haven't used it as much as Tomtom so to say it's better would be biased.

I have had the Road Angel 2 for about 4/5 years. Blackspot have said they will just do a firmware up date to render the Laser Alert non operational.

I have the Camera Locations on my TomTom and they are not as accurate as the Road Angel.

But it won't look as neat as the Road Angel Plus as the Road Angel 2 will have a wire going all the way to the cigerette lighter, correct?

please note peeps once this is done there is no way of changing it back

And isn't the laser detector a bit late for warning ?

Cause after the laser detector has picked up a camera, gun etc aint it too late to react once it beeps ?

Does that not mean you have been caught ?

On less you hammer brakes on immediately.

Excuse me if i'm bull shitting. ;)

you can adjust it to tell you however far away provided it can read it.

if the police see it on the screen once the law is in place they can test it there and then to check if it does detect laser cameras.

haz it would come under the 1st price bracket

as rich has said above you download a firmware application off the road angel website and you CANNOT get done.once done though cant be changed back

But that wouldn't matter when the law says you can't have the laser detection init.
