Rocker cover gaskets

I want to change the rocker cover gaskets on my 16v this weekend. Is this a big job?

Im no mechanic so can someone give me a quick guide of how to do this?

shouldnt be a big job an you can get one from Halfords for about £4

I cant find anything in the Haynes manual which I always rely on for this kind of thing. Do I need any special tools or to drain some coolant etc?

nope, its just the rocker cover not the head gasket, you should just need to undo about 8 bolts take the rocker cover off, remove old gasket, fit new one, an do it back up....job done

How do you know that it needs changing?

Oil in plug bores which has been getting worse for a while.

you need to take out all the bolts, theres 16 I think, 4 rows of 4.

i think i got the same problem coz when i lifted the bonnet there was bit of oil sprayed on the roof of the bonnet which was over the rocker cover! where the cheapest place to get these seals?

They dont cost much, any motor factors will do them, I doubt theyre much more from Renault.
