Rojer's New Car!

So with the the new job and reduced commute i could afford to run something different. The Clio has a deposit on it and due for collection this evening.

It's a Audi S3 8P facelift, i must say i do love this car way more than i thought i would. It really is the complete package i wanted, quiet and comfortable when i want, but shifts when needs be.

First mod already done a new GFB diverter valve. Plans for the future are Stage 2+ around 360bhp and that will do for me ha.

Noice.

What's the diverter valve all about?

When you take your foot off the throttle it stops the boost going back through the turbo etc. It's a common weak point on these TFSI engines and as such is classed as a serviceable item. I have replaced it with an uprated part so it will never need changing again and is more responsive. There was a difference even tho the original wasn't in bad shape.

Pretty sure i was watching this one on Autotrader 😂
Will be good to see how you get on with it!

Ha its a small world, plan is Stage 2+ and few other little bits. See how it goes. At the moment i am just enjoying it compared to the Clio haha.

A friend of mine had one of these, just chopped it in for a TT RS. His was the five-door version. Nice car though.

:pensive: What happened to the oddball jap barge? I can't say that excites me at all.

Haha i knew you wouldn't approve haha. The way i saw it i could of imported the Chaser or bought something else, but i need a package really. A car that does all things well. While i wanted a MK7 Golf R it was out of budget and i was a bit underwhelmed when i drove it. The S3 to me is the next best thing, quiet on motorway and comfy with a nice interior, but then goes nicely when you want it too with a lot of grip from the 4wd.

Surprisingly decent to drive, unlike the 8L.
A good mix of daily driver/fun.

Yer its a massive improvement from the 8L, drives really nice tbf.

Yer im not a fan of the sportback, TTRS is nice, but a bit too nose heavy. The noise from the 5 pot tho makes up for that ha.

Bet its a real decent drive, but Jesus wept its dull looking! Without the S3 badge on the front you couldn't tell it was a performance model.

It is and thats part of the reason why i like it. If i take the S3 badge of the back and put a 2.0TDI badge on know one would know the difference ha. Its a understated sleeper car, with not alot of work it will be crazy fast. Stage 2+ 0-60 is around 3.7 haha

Nice choice. I've owned one and loved it as an all rounder, fast, reliable, a great place to be and touches like the flat bottom steering wheel are always nice.

I'm going to sound cliche to say it and I won't use the word 'boring' but it does everything so well that it became something slightly uninteresting, more like an efficient appliance (that could lose your license easily)

Lol you don't need anyone's approval, if it fits the criteria you had then that's all that matters. Believe me I can see the appeal of a comfy quiet commuter that can give a hit of adrenaline with some power, it's the polar opposite of the clio! The Audi is definitely the better choice over a Golf R if you want to stay under the radar.
Good to see the clio sold too. It's amazing what a difference a good descriptive advert makes.

Yer you are right it is pretty boring/soul less, but it is growing on me slowly. I think when it gets a bit more noise and speed under the bonnet it will bring out some more character. Why did you get rid?

At the end of the day i buy cars to suit me, i have learnt to just do what i want lol. It is the total opposite of the Clio which i can live with ha. Yer the guy came and collected it last night so all good now. I always put time into the adverts as it helps them sell! My old Civic i built is up for sale on Ebay you should buy it.

So yesterday the car went to Auto Doctors which is run by my friend Stewart to have all the work below done.

* Engine oil & filter
* Spark plugs
* Air filter
* Pollen filter
* Fuel filter
* DSG oil & filter
* Haldex oil & filter
* Brake fluid
* Fuel pump cam follower

Think that is everything, I managed to get a look under the car whilst it was on the ramp and i was really happy with the condition. Everything is original and honest so looks like i might of bought a good one! Unfortunately TPS don't sell the Haldex filter and sent the wrong oil, we were also missing the two bolts you should replace when doing a Haldex service. Gave a quick ring to Alex at AKS Tuning who is not too far away and also a good friend of Stewart's and i was on my way collecting the parts we needed. Alex has a really nice unit and i would love to check it out more sometime. Once Stewart was done i took it for a drive and the gearbox is definitely a lot smoother now especially on downshifts so i'm happy. Didn't manage to get any photos as i was in and out :(

This morning i set about fitting my IE PCV delete which arrived yesterday courtesy of Regal. Was really straight forward to fit and only took 15ish minutes and i was being really careful. Gave under the bonnet a little clean once fitted as you can see its a bit dirty, but i would like to get it professionally detailed at some point. I did go to wash the car as well, but the weather has turned against me :( Again would like to get the car professionally detailed to make my life easier.

Really like that :up: sounds like it will be the perfect all rounder for you, for me personally, I like the more sleeper look and the auto too.......... I've driven the S3 saloon at work but that was a 65 plate I think so not the same, but can see the appeal of these cars for sure

Nice !! What engine is in these ? 2.0 T ?!

I love the stealthy look of it .. like a mini version of mine. I want to change the grille badge out for a 'quattro' one. There's nothing on the bootlid or wings :wink:

Yer the 2015 model is the 8V so next one up from mine, i did look at them, but thought better of it. Yer it's a great sleeper and a great all rounder. I did rotate the wheels at the weekend and they don't have make a racket now! Need them to wear in otherwise i will just have to swap them back around.

Yer mine has the 2.0 TFSI engine with 265bhp out of the box, there is a badge on the front grill and boot and that's it so very stealthy. The gearbox can be a bit annoying around town as it can be a little slow to respond, but you learn how to drive with it and then you learn to love it.

Next on the list is to get a few bits retro fitted, like cruise as mine didn't come with it :( Also would like to order a BCS Powervalve Exhaust which is basically boost operated, so off boost its nice and quiet like OEM and then on boost it comes alive. I feel that would be the best fit for the cars personality!

So then a slight update nothing fancy for now...Really wanted cruise control and it was annoying the original buyer didn't spec it. A dig around on audi-sport.net (i know right, where do they get these names from?!) and i had a well known, reputable guy order the parts required for me from Audi. He then came and fitted it and coded it in for me in around 30ish mins for the grand total of £250 which i dont think is bad at all. Really good job and seemed like a nice chap.

Weekend just gone by we decided to wash the cars and get a few photos. I have so many so just posting up a few for now lol.

Really nice, and subtle. Been looking at the pre facelift versions recenlty, seem a good buy for the price and love the interiors. Whats the standard stereo like to live with?
Also, that exhuast sounds great IMO!

Thanks, i would advise getting a facelift if possilbe as it has the better Haldex clutch and updated headlights with drls and better interior etc. Either way its a nice car and good all rounder.

My stereo is the Bose with the RNS-E Navigation Plus and its very nice, haven't had any issues with it. If it came with the standard stereo like Concert i would swap it for an aftermarket unit.

That's a nice touch getting the cruise control sorted and i'd be happy with that price all in too :up: I did that with my old Astra VXR a few years back, bought the stalk from Vauxhall and then got Courtenay Sport (specialists) to code it in for me. Great addition to a spec that should have had it as standard, same as yours

£250?! Jesus Christ, when I had my 8P A3 I did the cruise my self and it was massively less than that. VCDS pays for itself in the long run.

So nothing exciting on the car, but a trip to the Lotus factory at the weekend. It was a treat for my mates bday, so we drove to Hethel in Norfolk where the factory is based. Once we arrived we were greeted by a Lotus representative who directed us to the clubhouse in front of the track. Taken upstairs for more meets and greets, we had two track instructors one was Martin Donnelly ex F1 racer which was a nice surprise and the other was a nice chap called Paul. We also had Mike who had worked for Lotus since the 60s and he showed us around the factory. It was a great experience and i highly recommend it, you practically walk around the factory with no restriction and it's great to see the car being made (even if it uses a lot of mk3 Astra and Mondeo parts). The Elise we drove was a 220 sport so a 1.8 supercharged Toyota lump, more than enough poke for such a light car. The car itself was amazing, such balance and feel. My mate jumped straight out and was onto eBay haha. Thing is you think you are driving fast then the instructor jumps in and shows you how its done and all i can say is they are on another planet. Martin must be in his 50s, but no one told him that! So late and deep on the brakes its truly an experience!

Here are a few pictures from the day

That is very cool! That factory is only 40 ish mins away from us, never thought of a tour, looks really interesting

Highly recommended and for £120 you can't go wrong! I want to do their full 3 day training course but its like £1600 lol. Maybe one day. Well worth the trip for a car fan.

I have been neglecting this, but in my defense nothing exciting has been happening. I have been going through some rough s**t personally and just been using the car as an escape. I took a day off work a couple weeks ago and hit the road. I found one of the best driving roads i think i have ever been on, destroys EVO triangle that's for sure! A39 from Minehead to Barnstaple is just pure driving heaven, in fact it was so good the next day i went back and took my mate, we also hit Cheddar Gorge on the way home. In total i did 1200 miles in two days and burned through a few tanks....

At the weekend i got some new Eagle F1 Asymmetrics 3 for the front, but the tracking is out and the tyre roar is so bad between 50-70ish. So i will try and get it sorted this weekend if i can.

Next on the list is some brakes, it had new fronts before i got the car, but its cheap s**t and i warped the discs very quickly. These cars are known for warping them anyways. So i'm thinking about upgrading to 4 pot Brembos from a DB9 or TTS which is about £1500 new! Or i have seen a slight upgrade package for £600 which is better discs, pads and lines. Once i can stop the thing, then i will think about the power upgrades, a lot is going on so my money is being diverted and can't spend it on the car as much.

The next big road trip is Worthersee 2018, i went in 2016 and it was epic. Ideally i would like to take my car and go on the ring etc, but we will see closer to the time. Plan is to go to Spa then Nurburgring then into Switzerland and do some driving roads there and then into Austria. Finally to Ingolstadt and then Nuremberg then home. Around a 10 day trip, but should be awesome :)

Stay tuned for further (more exciting) updates.
