Roll Cage specs?

  Qashcow
im looking at having a bit of a winter project going. i want a kitcar but cant afford one at the moment, so am looking at a weld in cage for the clio.

im not buying one, and im happy to spend 3 months in my garage bending cutting and grinding to my hearts content.

ive worked out im going to use and waste about 25meters of steel, but can someone tell me what gauge/thickness and what diameter a cup race/ safety devices cage is.

2 inch is looking favorable (any bigger an i cant bend it) but not sure on the swg

thanks in advance

Needs to be seemless (CDS)

All joins must be profiled

2" is just scraping the ok mark, just!

for CDS I think 3mm is the minimum

I wouldn't bother with 50x3, a full weld in cage using 50x3 would weigh about 70-80 kgs

The cup racer cage i bought recently is 40mm and iirc it's 2mm/2.5mm wall, tbh i've not measured it all up but i think some of it has a slightly larger od.

Unless your competing, a 38x2 cage would be fine, if it's for competing you'll need too check your regs (probably 45x3 or 50x2.6) or see if you can use a pre-approved lighter gauge design (like the cup racer)
