Roof strips smoothed!

  S4 (320bhp) + Clio 16v

Im getting a few things smoothed on my car soon and was thinking of smoothing off the roof strip things. has anyone had this done and whats the results?

Any cracking etc!!

Looks good but ur fcuked if they crack!

i didnt get mine done due to the fact it would cost me sh*t loads due to the blend

fibreglass will flex so would be less likely to crack but personally wouldnt take the chance

I know Powellys had hers done for ages without any cracking but seem peoples who have and its not pretty

Yeah as alex said i have mine done and also the bump strips etc looks a lot better especially on lighter colour cars but there is a slight risk of cracking so im told but hey its all in the name of modding ;)

Colour coding could be an option actually. didnt think of that. r they easy to get off? I remember seeing matt hill smiths car from type k and that looked well good with out the strips but my car is fully colourcoded so wanna do something with them as well.! just waiting for someone to drive into me so i can get it done for free and get all the little bits done at the same time. ;)

You just pull them out and then underneath is little clips (like on the bump strips if you have ever seen them) we left them in so the filler/fibre glass had something to attach itself too

its a pretty easy job to prep for and do if you know what your doing!

Funnily enough, i started work on filling mine in last night!

Personally, there is NO WAY i wouldve put fibreglass in there. That stuff you could hardly call flexible!

What ive done so far, is first tack in several nuts into the groove both sides, then placing metal strips over them, weld those in, then a light skim of filler to fill the slight gap which is left.

The reason ive used several nuts, is because i originally put the plate straight over where the clips clip into, but the metal was still extremely low, therefore still leaving loads to fill. Didnt want to risk it. My cars not metallic, so i suppose it wouldnt have been to bad to do if it hadve cracked, but id rather not do it in the first place!

So tom, in my opinion, do it properly with metal and dont risk it! If you can weld (which isnt really difficult, just get the right settings, and have a steady hand), then its just time and patience getting the skim of filler right.

Hope this helps,

Al
