Rough tapping idle.

  Clio Sport 182
Hi guys,

As you can see in the title I'm having a idling problem with my 182. Let me tell you a little about the car. The car is 55 plate with 48'000 miles on the clock. It has a full service history with 5 stamps but there is no proof of cambelt being done so I'm going to have it done anyway. The car seems to run perfectly fine and isn't losing any power however, when the engine is at running temperature and is idling - it begins to tap. I've been told this is a dephaser pulley problem. Apparently it isn't serious but because its part of the timing of the engine I should have it changed with the belt etc.

Is what I've been told true? Could the tapping be coming from the dephaser? Also, What parts should I have done along with the cambelt while its in the garage?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

sounds about right but dephasers rattle, not tap

parts that MUST be replaced, not optional are as follows

cambelt KIT
aux belt KIT
dephaser
oil seal KIT
oil seal plugs (gearbox end)
crank bolt

Thanks Fred. Looking to spend a good few ton then, before labour. :) Is there anyone that could recommend somewhere to pick up the parts or am I best going for all genuine Renault parts?

sorry to hijack your thread but i had a similar noise, but it happened from cold as well as when its warm. the garage reckoned it needed a good run, after changing the oil, filter and coolant. i left it running on the drive where it over heated. a few weeks later i took it for a drive and found the head gasket has gone clear signs of water mixing with oil. Im going to replace the HG, timing kit, dephaser and water pump. Any ideas what the noise could of been? and is there anything i should replace while im at it?

go to a specialist not your dad's mate's garage, some places are funny about customers supplying parts (plus yu'll stuggle with warranty) and it normally works out MORE if the customer supplies! It does with us anyway!

600all in inc VAT from us inc oil and filter

6hour job officially, so say 300 in labour, now good luck trying to source all the bits for less than 300!

So we're talking top line £600 all in? I've saved your website. I'll be sure to contact you in the near future. The only downside is the distance you are from me but hey, :) Thanks.
