RS192 - odd design?

I've had my 182 for two years now, and after two years of thinking about it I've finally decided what exhaust I want,

A RS192 !.......................................I think........................but,

does anyone else think the design is a bit odd.

Am I right in thinking it's the only 182 exhaust that has two back boxes that are seperate and have to be assembled?

Why don't they manufacture them with the boxes welded together with bracing? (I can't imagine it's just for cheaper postage.)

It must make fitment a pain.

And to those who've owned one for a while - do they need constant re-adjustment to keep them in the right position? I'm really fussy and I would want the tailpipes to sit perfectly in the cut-outs.

Also, although I love the slash cut, I'd want the tailpipes to stick out about 3/4" or 1" or so - can this be achieved?

In one of the previous threads it's mentioned that you can just not push two of the sections together quite so much - but surely the hangers welded to the back boxes would need adjusting? Not sure I'd want to buy a new exhaust and then start messing with it like that.

Does anyone agree with the two points I've made?

If there was support from a number who were considering buying, I wonder if the manufacturers/suppliers would consider making a few slightly differently?

Sorry, lot to read.

Would appreciate responses from those who've owned one for a while, or those who've been put off buying one because of the reasons I've mentioned.

(And yes, I have looked at lots of previous threads.)

Fitment of mine was a pain - I had to 'adjust' the two (new) rear hangers to get it anywhere close to being central in the bumper, after originally having to 'adjust' the two old ones.

As for sticking out that much - I think mine sticks out just a fraction at the top and at the bottom about three quarters of an inch to an inch and that suits the slash cut of the bumper. Anything more (IMO) would look wrong and yes you could probably manage to do it with a bit of playing about. 've also seen them tucked right in and didn't like it at all.

As for constant re-adjustment, once I eventually got it how I wanted I haven't had to touch it again. If anything now one of the tie wraps I had to use on the rear hanger (sounds dodgy, but I had to adjust it so much as it wouldn't get close to sitting centrally) has fell off, over a few months it's probably gone more central and fits better, because at first I thought it was way out.

I haven't had any experience with other exhausts on my 182, but I'm quite happy with mine and it isn't unbearably loud either - just a little bit deeper and a little bit louder when you put your foot down.

Cheers Perry for the detailed response.

I agree - tailpipes flush with the bumper, or tucked behind doesn't seem right. Sounds like yours is fitted in the same manner that I'd want mine done - so it is 'do-able'.

I saw someone mention in a previous thread that you can get them fitted at Scorpion themselves - I think they're somewhere in my part of the country. So I'll probably go down that route.

So do I buy now or wait for a group buy? :S

Erm haven't got the link at the moment as I'm not on my PC, but I think it's a company (in Shropshire?) that makes them or designed them for Scorpion (something along those lines) and yes there were fitting them - there should be links to them in the Scorpion 192 group buy thread, which will be on page two or three in the group buy section.

Yeah, I can't understand why they don't just assemble the two boxes in a jig and weld them together - would make fitment so much easier.

Sorry Fred, I just ain't man enough for the noise of a yozza ;-)

Cheers, when I'm back at a computer I'll have a look for the relevant address.
