Rs2 inlet + cams

  172 Phase 2
I know this topic has been brought up too many times but i havent really found the definitive answer im after. What aftermarket cams does the rs2 respond best or well with. I know either the group n timing or the 197 is for some good ol cheap games but im not aware of any one in the land down under who can time either of these. So my next alternative is aftermarket ones in particular catcams 421 or piper 285 or anything else that work. Really dont care for figures this point in time i just want a nice torquey car that pulls thank you

If you want something with torque then go for matched inlets and 197 cams, will give you more torque than the rs2.

Last two I've done have made 193 and 197 bhp, the latter did 175ft/lb torque.

You can set 197 cams on standard timing if you want, not the best results that way but seen 190bhp when done that way.

Thanks for the reply mate with the matched inlets and 197 cam set up is it just strong up top or through the whole rev range? would preferably wanna keep the rs2 because i spent the longest time trying to get one.

Right through but especially mid range and above. The rs2/sm do give you nice flat torque but obviously a lot less.

Ha e got a graph at home of the last one I did, will post it later on when I'm back in.

Alright thanks mate keen to see the graph
Have you had any experiance in an rs2 car and if so how does it compare to the matched inlets +197 cams

Seems 197 cams are the better option these days then, better figures than 438's?

How much would I be looking at for a set of 197 cams fitted and mapped? pM me if you prefer.

not a graph, just a pic sorry. the black was before cams and matched inlets etc. car also running epas.

one i'm getting ready for the prom stages next month.

Any details on the rally car? I will be servicing at the prom stages, are you going?

Very nice, was this graph with standard 172 timing? or optimised secret 197 timing?
Thanks

It's my super duper secret secret timing, even more secret than the normal secret one:tongueclosed:

Might pop down for a bit, to be honest motorsport bores me to tears!!

This one is blue 182, possible ha e diff in it by then as well but it's sat here waiting for me to finish it and get it log booked. Only just came back from cage being painted last week so plenty to do still.

Also got an rb 182 here that's doing prom as well, just finishing fitting a sadev box and got to try and sort dash wiring out before it goes back to the owner for him to do some small jobs and try and get used to the box.

Well, I shall be there, servicing an Escort Maxi, so feel free to pop over and say hello if you do head over!

if i pop down i will do. only live a couple of minute walk away.

Does your super duper secret timing increase the performance of standard 172 cams?

nah, the 197 only does the inlet, you can do standard cams to group n timing but needs mapping afterwards.

  182 Turbo
Some time ago i believe someone done 438 cams and rs2 and they didnt couple well, so got rid of the rs2 as it made more power without

This was mine when I was running n/a with the 197 cams and matched inlets. Drove brilliantly!

Seems to be the norm this sort of power/torque with the cams etc. Get it mapped at EFI if you can too

@imprezaworks The cams are about £150 to buy, similar price for matched inlets too but can be had a bit less second hand. Obviously exhaust inc' decat and some sort of induction setup are needed too

I had my cams fitted when i needed my belts doing at clio turbo and it was free fitting but i can't see it being much to do. I know @bloke has the timing tool to set them up, as he timed mine when i had my megane pulley fitted. I imagine he could fit the cams too?

Other than that you've just got the mapping at EFI which is £250.

Quite reasonable for a nice gain tbh!

I run RS2, PMS exhaust mani, GrpN timing and custom intake setup and made really good torque from low down and holds peak torque from about 2500-2700 to the redline.

Chris at EFi was really impress with the low down torque and how it held it but.

Also said the timing was holding it back, he said to get any more from it to fitted the wildest cams I could get and bring it back for mapping.

I also have 197 cams for sale
