What the hell does that thing on the end of the wiper stalk do? on a mk1 rt phase 3

lol...i have always wondered that, very good question!!

It's for the immobiliser, if the key won't unlock/un-imobilize, then you switch on ignition, push stalk button number of times for the first digit of you code and so on, then you can start the car.
