RT-Valver brake caliper....

conversion? Im gonna be changing the discs and callipers,

what do I have to do?

How easy is it?

And what will I need?

Danny

Right what you need is some calipers from a diesel, or new ones for vented disks then you will need the caliper carriers off a r19 or valver etc. Vented disks from lockheed and a sensible choice of pads. This i have found is the best and easiest way to convert your disks and it massively improves the breaking without needing to change the master cylinder. I have had 2 valvers and they have never been as good as the conversion on my old 1.4rt probably due to weight. See pics below for an idea of what they will look like. Bear in mind they only just fit inside my alloys so you need to to check your alloys will accomodate them.

what?

stuff that..........get the entire assembly off a valver including the shorter bolts and discs. Bolts straight on no worries.

End of.

doesnt that make the travel in the brake peadle spongy and no response until the last quater? i.e. a requirement to replace the master cylinder?

np i have 16v brakes on my rt, brake peddel travel is exactly the same, just stops u better :D

how much will this likely cost?

as i want to do this, as even though i dont drive fast, i know the RT breaks are sh*t compared to other cars ive driven

how easy is it?

many thanks

just get the valver calipers+pad carrier(inc bolts) from a breakers yard and some new valver discs and pads.you need some brake paste and brake fluid. you then just need a 18m socket+ratchet,13m socket,17m spanner,19m socket, large grips,40/30torx bits/sockets,14m spanner,11m brake pipe spanner,8m spanner and a couple of screwdrivers. dead easy job.

Yea im on the same wave length, was just talking to me dad last nite about wot id have todo to swap my brake set up for a 16V set up.

he thought maybe Ren5 Turbo brake Setup?

But then i dont wanna be swaping sh*t around coz ya never know might wanna sell in 6 months time. better off just getting perfmormance discs and pads?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH its kind of annoying to read the same topics over and over and over again. :(

need valver calipers, valver discs, valver pads, valver bolts. Get them on the RT. Bleed the damn circuit and thats it. No need to change no master cylinder and the fuking padle travels the same as before.

Not showing pics this time of my brakes LOL.

i needed a 13mm i think brake spanner to remove my brake lines not 11mm....

Right well cheers lads for the feedback.

But Im already in the process of buying some valver calipers, vented discs and pads!

So do I also need to get the bolts and pad carriers?

Jay - what is the pad carrier?

Cheers Danny

You need a complet set of valver calipers. I think jay refers to the "pad carrier" as the part of the caliper that bolts to the hub. Since it can be taken off some ppl say its a diferent part.

I didnt need new bolts. Cant remember if I used the valver ones or the RT ones, but when you are at it check!!!! Bolts are pretty cheap and easy to get.

Cheers lads, I should be gettin hold of all parts neccessary now, will post if I run into problems!

Thanks.

It is a different part, if you order callipers thats all you will get, thats why i had diesel calipers and had to raid a scrap yard for R19 16v carriers.

P.S. R5turbo calipers will do also

Im buyin them off a guy on here, he is doin a 4 pot conversion I think and so is going to give me everything that he takes off!

So will he need th carriers for the new 4 pots or will he get them?

Yep. Although, after driving a Williams.. the brakes are a lot harder to press on mine. Williams must have more assistance!
